I’ve been lurking around the site for a few months and it’s been a great source of information.
I really had no plans on buying a Cayman, or any car this year. In December I found out I won the PCA raffle for a 2007 CS. The local dealer (Carlsen Porsche) agreed to take the raffle car and PCA’s payment for it and apply that amount to any 2007 CS I wanted. I ended up ordering a car and got the VIN# Monday. It should arrive in April and I can hardly wait.
I got a 56 second test drive on Saturday. Beez let me drive his car one run at an autocross school. It only took about 15 seconds to be really impressed by the handling and brakes. I’m anxiously looking forward learning to drive a car with the engine a little farther forward than I’m used to.

Wait! Let's take this slow and easy. Are we to believe Greg WON a Cayman in December and waited three months to tell us? At least it should be more of a story. How much was the raffle ticket? I don't believe anyone ever raffled a snickers bar either. I do believe April first is comming.
PCA held a raffle, tickets were $50. I should've gotten one...

Actually, Greg is mistaken or being quite modest - his test drive was 46 seconds and change, and was only .2 seconds slower than my time at the school where we were both instructing. He's one of the best AX and time trial drivers in Zone 7, and it will be a blast to have him campaigning his Cayman S after it arrives.
I found out I won around Dec 5. At first I was going to take the cash because I had just bought a house a few days earlier and $55k minus taxes sounded a lot better than the raffle car and a large tax bill. I'm not that picky, but the raffle car didn't have a single performance option and was my least favorite interior and exterior colors. When PCA and the dealership agreed to let me order a car and pay any difference, it became too good a deal to pass up.
I had to pick the options on a budget, so just stuck to the performance stuff:
Meteor grey
Stone grey PASM Sport Chrono
Sports seats
Sport steering wheel
Standard Cayman S 18" wheels

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Sport Chrono and Chrono Plus
This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. A second digital display runs in parallel in the instrument cluster. Click this Link to visit the FAQ entry for Sport Chrono.
