Does the PCM now support PostCode (ZIP) Searches?

I know that prev PCMs do not but think that updates are available to PCM 2.1 on The Cayenne to use this functionality

Cheers

Matt

I can't answer the PCM question, but as for sponsored sig and donation, can you send me the email verifying the donation as I cannot seem to locate it. Thanks!

<div>Guys, </div>
<div></div>
<div>Here's an update from the Porsche email-newsletter that I received yetserday- I hop this helps, as it looks like we may be able to update the PCM to handle Postcodes more fully now.</div>
<div></div>
<div> </div>
<div>The Navigation Update is available for all MY05 vehicles fitted with PCM 2.1 and provides an enhancement to previous Porsche navigation systems. The update features a wider European coverage, higher levels of detail and a search destination by postcode facility.

In addition, the navigation update includes the Traffic Messaging Channel (TMC) which delivers instant, up to date traffic information to the Porsche Communication Management navigation module. The information, given in visual and audible 'traffic alerts', allows a driver to see where traffic problems are located and gives them the option to take an alternative route avoiding incidents and congestion.

For more information regarding the Navigation Update or TMC, please contact your nearest Porsche Centre. </div>
<div>Detailed information you will find in the respective 'audio and communication' section. </div>

HI Matt

I use the postcode feature on the PCM. When you go to enter a new desination, in the 'Town' heading you can enter the first part of the postcode - ie SW17 7 - this will then bring up all the streets in that post code area.

I do that too, but am hoping that the newer update that Porsche have mentioned may include full postcode searches and more detail aswell as updated maps. I may or may not be correct but from the info it seems that if you have a 2.1 PCM system then you will be able to update it.

sj,

I may be wrong but I think the Cayman already has the latest update you refer to. There was an issue with early 2005 Boxsters/911's that were supposed to have TMC (according to the sales blurb) but did not - then the OPC want to charge &pound;3-400 to upgrade them!(many threads on this issue in other forums). My TMC and postcode search works just fine and as Tonse says, you only put in the first part of the post code to get a listof street options

BTW my SatNav disc is dated April 2005 - BMWproducedtwo versionseach year

Im glad you mentioned the date on your sat nav disc because the M1 suddenly disappeared on my way to Newcastle from St.Albans(Herts) and it looked as if I was driving through farmland!!!!

and on the way back I chose the A1 and that too disappeared in stretches !!!

I was very annoyed as those two roads have been updated for years now!

I need to get an updated DVD at some point.

I also heared that the Porsche maps are not as up to date as they could be - I've had no issues up to now though

I think I know where you mean Sjagota - I do London to Newcastle regularly, and theres the new Wetherby bypass on the A1M (dotted blue lines on the Streetmap pic below). This opened around October last year, and my TomTom Sat Nav has me driving through fields there too !

I would certainly hope that a new Cayman bought last week would have the most up to date Nav available to Porsche !

The partial Postcode search works on my PCM so I guess the softwares up-to-date, I'll have to haggle the OPC and see if I can get the new map-update from them when it comes-out...
