Helpful tip for fixing occasional AVIC-D3 NAVI problem

Every so often I've noticed that the NAVI map screen in my AVIC-D3 defaults to its home position, downtown Los Angeles, and will not show an accurate current location, even if I remove and reinsert the map DVD. This occurs even though I have good GPS reception.

I've found that the following fixes the problem:

Go to NAVI menu, choose "SETTINGS," then select "MODIFY CURRENT LOCATION."

Then tap the "-" button until you see most the country displayed on the map. Tap twice, as close as you can by your current location, and start driving a bit. In my experience, the unit then begins to recognize your actual location and resets itself to that location. This is much easier than going through the factory reset process!

Hope this helps. By the way, a big thanks to all who posted their observations about the AVIC installation process; it really helped me!
