Yes definitley true, you have to disconnect the battery! This is important to do when doing any electrical modifications. Just loosen the nut on the terminal on the left and slide the cable off.

I find a PCM unit but this person that is selling this says that his car was with bose and my car is not,he will send the part numbers today. It will be fixed to my car only if i by onother fiber wire or i have to find anothe PCM unit if it has in the 3rt part of number 143??
If the third part of the unit is 143 that means it has no internal amplifiers/drivers and it will not be able to produce any sound in a car without Bose. Bose cars have been shipped with PCM's with drivers/amplifiers with 141 in the third part of the part number, so there is a good chance that his PCM will work but don't buy it without making sure of the part numbers.

Onother question! Can i add sport chrono in my car?
paul
Sport Chrono and Chrono Plus
This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. A second digital display runs in parallel in the instrument cluster. Click this Link to visit the FAQ entry for Sport Chrono.
Sorry to trouble you ... but I'm finding my local Porsche dealer in Australia terribly un-informative!
This is my first post on this site.
I have 2006 Boxster 987 VIN WPOZZZ98Z6U701280 Build Date is 10/2005. It has the standard CDR-24 with an upgraded sound system "Package Plus". I'm told that means that it just has extra speakers ... but no BOSE amp is installed. Also, I have a 6 stack changer CDC in the front.
I'm wondering what your thoughts are in relation to compatibility with a PCM unit I'm hoping to buy from the internet. Below are the details of whats being offered.
PCM2.1 SAT NAV MAIN UNIT OPTICAL MODEL: 997.642.103.11
DVD NAV UNIT 997.642.137.02
HARMAN BECKER PHONE UNIT 997.646.208.13
Can you advise if this is compatible? Also what additional parts are required? As I'm based in Australia (this PCM unit is coming from UK), I imagine that I would need to purchase a local DVD Map ...

997.642.103.BX.FMH *Remanufactured/Control Module PCM2.1 without driver
997.642.133.06.FMH Previous, ditto, USA, no longer available once existing supplies are used up
997.642.133.AX.FMH *Remanufactured/Control Module PCM2.1 w/o driver, Prev. Version
997.642.133.05.FMH Previous, ditto, USA, no longer available once existing supplies are used up
997.642.133. X.FMH * Remanufactured/Control Module PCM2.1 w/o driver, Prev. Version
As you can see from what I put in bold above, that model does not have built in drivers and will only work with Bose, it will not work with sound package plus cars.

Ok .. so further to my email above ... it seems that you can buy an amplifier to drive the PCM 997.642.103.11 ?? Anyone know if this is true? If so, what sort of amp do you buy and how hard is it to install?
Not true. To retrofit Bose you will need a whole new wiring harness for the car, because your set up (sound package plus) uses an analog speaker-level input amplifier to power 3 speakers, and the headunit to power 6 speakers. The Bose amp (digital fiber optic input) powers all the speakers from the amp. Thus the wiring throughout the car is different. Wiring harnesses run about $8,000 from Porsche.
