PCM Loading New Map Data?

Sometimes when I turn on the PCM in my 2008 Cayman, it says "Load new map data? [Yes] [No]"

Is the navigation system really downloading updated maps? I thought I had to pay Navteq a few hundred dollars for update DVDs each year. If it is really downloading is it just updating POIs or everything? And how is it doing it? Over a cell network?

Sounds like you may have a problem with the map DVD. My unit did the same , so I removed the DVD and cleaned it. Worked fine thereafter. There is no live updating on the PCM , it updates only once when a new map is loaded.

Ah ok, thanks Berty. Bummer it can't update over the air. Maybe someday.
