Question PCM 2.1 Navigation problem

I have a 2006 CS with PCM and Navigation. When I insert the original Navi DVD into the Navigation player. It doesn't do anything. I have switched the power back on and I think my PCM is not reading it. It shows " navigation not available " when I press NAVI on PCM. I know the disc I have has a serial # 997. xxx xxx But isn't 997's PCM 2.1 same as CS? Anyway, when I insert the DVD into the Navigation player in the trunk. It is like the same without the disc in there.

The software on the PCM/Nav probably needs a newer version of the nav disk.

Would the new touchscreen PCM be retrofitted into the 987?

The Disc is a 2006 Asia Pacific starting with 2006.x 997. xxx. xxx.
My dealer said it is the latest Navigation DVD for the porsches up to date. I never got my navigation working because I never had any disc until now.

Assuming your car was originally supplied with the navigation module and its not a retro fit , the unit should function with a new DVD map. If the map is faulty or cannot be read you normally get a more specific message. There have been cases where new MAP DVD's will not work on earlier navigation drives because the map software has not been updated on the navigation drive. The 2006 MAP should contain a software update as part of the information on the DVD , but sometimes it will only update from the previous software version. If this is the case you wil need the software updating either by a dealer or by installing a previous map. Its probably worth also checking the information from the navigation screen as to how many satellites are being recieved. If your car has been serviced recently , its possible the connection to the GPS antenna (that sits in the windscreen cowl above the pollen filter) may have become disconnected. The PCM communicates with the navigation drive via the MOST (fibre optic) interface . It may also be worth checking that the connections on the rear of the navigation module (orange wires) have not become loose.

Nav just says "Loading" and locks up the PCM

I recently wanted to use my Nav and it screwed me royally!

When I went to enter the city it just showed "Loading" and wouldn't bring up the list. I figured something was messed up with the DVD reader so I pulled over and ejected the DVD. I checked and it is absolutely fine. So I started driving again and still same problem. Anyone know why it would be doing this/had the same problem?

PS: Since that made the PCM unstable it was a horrible drive! It would lock up and even if I turned the car off it the radio would just stay on! Then I could fiddle with the eject button and get the PCM to reboot but it would lock up again shortly thereafter. So annoying, and I figure it was because it kept trying to get the NAV stuff loaded. There is no "HARD-SHUTOFF" option for the PCM so that was a pain.

I spoke with my dealer about this problem and They said the navigation DVD I try to load is for 07+ models. I have a 2006 CS with " navigation ". I think It's quite weird. When I load in the disc and I press " navi " or map. It shows " navigation not available. They said I can purchase earlier 05/06 DVD disc. I also gave my VIN# to porsche in Germany and their suggestion is for me to order a 05/06 disc. Which I think it's pretty late it's already 08 right now.

It's pretty weird that my PCM is not even reading it. It's basically no difference when I load in the disc or not.

The DVD unit needs the firmware upgrading by the dealer. There is a DVD upgrade disc for the PCM head unit and the Nav DVD unit.
