GW500 help!

I know..I know.. Another Dension thread!

I just installed a GW500 and see no tracks - no songs titles- no albums but it plays just fine. I have PCM with no CD Changer but the Dension unit added CDC menues.. Is this just a matter of reprogramming my system for CDC?

I have looked at all these threads and now I am completely lost.. Some say that the PCM will recognize the GW500 but none say that you need programming to get the titles.

Other issues like the ipod stays on even after you remove the key? That cant be normal??

Thoughts
Thx

Since I don't have the PCM, I'm afraid I can't help you very much. But you tried resetting the GW500 or switching it off and on 3 times?

That depends where you get your power from? I tapped the power from the head unit, it stays on until you lock the doors

You need to do the GW500 configuration and turn on text, scroll, select, etc. All the options should be on for the PCM. You move the selector switch back and forth 3 times quickly and then the menu shows up, hold down the track forward button for ~3 seconds on each thing to select it and for the next setting to show up. You can read about this in the manual.

The iPod does stay on after you leave the car as it continues to charge for some time and holds the song position in memory in case you return; it automatically shuts off after some time to preserve battery. There are two other options you can select for this in the charge settings (found in cd6 menu) of the GW500; if you want you can always have it shut off immediately, but I personally prefer the default setting.

Maybe you are in iPod UI mode? Make sure it is in iPod GW mode.
If still no text, then check the DIP switch settings. Has your iPod writes "Porsche PCM" at startup?

In normal cases you don't need to touch the textmode settings (3 times on-off), it has the best setting by default.

You must use non-switched power always.
The Gateway goes to sleep if the MOST ring shuts down. Usually it happens only after the car is locked.

That menu is only exists in the old 1.0x FW versions. Now the iPod charging is turned off, some seconds after the MOST ring shuts down.

I've been having a problem recently where my ipod stays on after shutting off the car for however long it takes to run the ipod's battery all the way down and it dies. Then when I turn on the car it says BTA Audio instead of my ipod for about 5-10 minutes until the ipod gets enough juice into its batteries to be seen by the Dension unit and then it works fine until I shut off the car again and the ipod then drains back down.

Is there some reason why my unit started doing this after upgrading to the latest firmware so I could install the BTA 1500?

All..
This site is great! Your responses have fixed my issues. Re-setting the unit fixed the problem. The manual is very unclear regarding menu access. Maybe the website has better info.. Anyway, I also had the power on a switched supply (I thought I had that ok but..).

Thx for all your help!

I have to agree with you there. If this site wasn't around, I probably wouldn't have been able to install the spec.dock on my own. Both the install guides with photos and the snappy answers helped me get it done. So - thanks!
