Installed Dension500, BTA1500, XM for iPhone. Couple of issues

Ok, I'm going to write an article about all this. In the mean time, I'm having a few problems, so I thought I would send this post out now for people that have ideas.

My stock 06 Cayman S:
PCM 2.1 with telephone buttons (without phone installed)
Navigation
No CD changer (Single CD in dash PCM)
Bose system

What I installed:
Dension 500 (with new iPhone cable and extender)
BTA 1500
Hardwire Valentine 1
XM satellite

What is working:
All of it

What is cool:
iPhone charges, plays music, makes phone calls seemlessly. Just awesome
iPhone populates the PCM with all my contacts and can make calls
iPhone automutes for calls while listening to music, then plays music again.
People seem to hear me just fine...although some echo on their end

What is not working (please help):
1) Text for the songs on the PCM
2) The USB port says "no USB" but still seems to work.

What I've done:
Updated the Dension with the latest Firmware
Tried switching the dension switch back/forth 3x
Verified multiple times that the dip switches were correct
Verified Dension 500 is on constant power
Verified Dension 500 is on non-service mode
Verified Unit is on GW ipod mode

How long did it take me:
5 hours from beginning to end. I had to make a few ninja weapons with my 6yo boy so there was some diversion. BUT! he did help me pull some wires so I'm guessing it was a wash.

I've read so many posts on trying to get text for their music. I think the Dension unit continues to update and change. My dip switches are different then K-ManS. My version doesn't work with the 3x off/on switch.

One other small issue, that is annoying, is that I simply cant get the next track to play in GW ipod mode. When I go from album to album, I think I press the FF button (press 6), but it never goes to the first song. Also in both UI or GW mode, I cant get the next song in an album to play. It always skips to the next album.

Many thanks for all the posts. I'm going to send a donation as I've saved alot of money. I couldn't have done it without all of you. For some reason, I cant post my pictures.. I'll continue.

I have a similar setup (Same Cayman hardware with Palm 700w). Everything works except the voice on the phone and it does not download the phonebook. I can hear them but they can't hear me. Not just low volume - no volume. I have tested everything but the mic (which I am about to do). Do you recall any tricks or gotchas in the install? It seemed pretty straight forward to me.

Hopefully Suneet or someone more well versed in this like GW500 will be along soon to try and answer this. I get text of the song title but not the group or album name when a song is playing unless the song title is burned to contain those elements in a single field.

Craig,

I don't know, but it seems the phone is the biggest difference between yours/mine setup. I didn't do anything special except actually nick my microphone wire with a screwdriver . After routing my wires, I found that I got some residue on some wires (including the microphone) so I cleaned them off with some acetone (courtesy my gf).

I've tried various things and still have not got it to display the text. Time to install: 5 hours. Time after install trying various things... 5 hours I think I'm just stuck with what I have. i.e. iPhone doesn't display any text. I actually dont have any more time to invest in it anyway...unless someone has any ideas.

In the coming 2.13 FW there will be "Song + Artist" display. I hope you will like it.

1. Please check what is written on an iPod at startup. Is it "Porsche PCM"? If you have only iPhone then please send the GW_EES.BIN file from USB to Dension Support. They will be able to check whether you panel recognised the right car configuration.

2. Try a pendrive formatted for FAT16 or FAT32. Put some MP3 files on it. If there're no music files on it then the Gateway will say "no USB". Does the USB LED flashes when you connect it? You can also check the pendrive for file system errors on a PC.

With the 3 times on/off procedure you can change the text mode. During a usual installation procedure you don't need to touch that. There is an other way to reach the text-config. Go to "AUX GW" mode and then press and hold FastForward for at least 10 second. Then you will see the textmode selections "+PAGING" and "+SELECT". Please select the "+PAGING".

"Also in both UI or GW mode, I cant get the next song in an album to play. It always skips to the next album."
I think you are on the Scan Albums disc (disc #3). There you can only jump between albums by pressing the Track Up/Down. If you like an Album, press and hold Fast Forward for some seconds. This will select all the songs from the album (and the same time will jump back to disc #5). After this you should be able to navigate between individual tracks of that album.

GW500,

I don't know who you are, and you probably work for Dension, but can you say... SAAAWEET!!. Thank you sir

1) artist+display issue: I'll await the upgrade. Great Service!!
2) no USB: This is no issue. I put some mp3s on a USB 2.0 drive and it changed to USB: and all the songs/artists/folders where displayed. Just awesome!!!
3) track selection: operator error. I didn't follow the instructions exactly. Now it works just fine. Another thank you.
4) GW_EES.BIN: I actually deleted the file AFTER I upgraded the firmware. I'm assuming you dont need it.

I've been using the Dension 500 + BTA 1500 for a week now. It really is a slick system. I copied all my music to a USB drive so that I can see the artist/tracks. Now, when I get in the CAR, I leave my phone in my pocket and the bluetooth automatically populates my address book. I make/receive calls cleanly. I can even listen to my voicemail from my iphone wirelessly through the bluetooth connection. How sweet is that!!
