It's the thin wire in the windshield glass, I believe.
I just got Sirius yesterday (Starmate 5 for $99 with a couple of rebates at The Source). Put the radio on the windshield mount sitting just to right of the instrument cowling (left-hand drive vehicle).
I ran the FM extender (the little black wire) up under the instrument cowling itself - pushed way back under the perforated top layer and lies on top of the three instrument pods. Since black on black, can barely notice it. The car's own radio antenna is in the windshield. A friend has XM and an XM extender about an inch square that sticks onto the inside glass right over the thin wire in the middle of the windshield. Not sure yet if same exists for Sirius.
FYI - I placed the satellite antenna outside the car, on the "carbon fiber" area between the wipers (closer to the passenger side wiper and further from the driver's side where the wiper motor sits). Used a super-strong rare earth magnet under the carbon fiber bit to hold the antenna disk in place. This holds it okay, but it's still removable. Barely noticeable, and will be less so if I paint the little disk black.
Temporary install: Ran the satellite antenna wire from radio forward to the groove between windshield and dash, across to passenger side, all the way around under the passenger side black rubber gasket, then forward under the A-pillar and beneath the carbon fiber bit.
That left about 4 inches to loop and zip-tie to the airfilter frame.
Today we did some long runs in the 130 - 160 clicks range, and more. No evidence of any instability in the satellite antenna, and good reception all round regardless of direction driven (out here in the wide open prairies).
Haven't tried the city yet.
