My two biggest questions are,

1) when will we have it state-side?

2) what will the cost be for current Gateway 500 owners?

Thanks

Ordered mine over the weekend just got a call from home that they recieved it, cost me about 130 shipped from the UK to california, I don't have a cayman but have a cayenne with the full nav, i will give you guys a review later tonite or tommorow after i install it and mess around with it. From what i've heard it supposed to be a lot better than the 1000 which i have as well so i can compare them side by side.

Cayenne08 I'm eagerly anticipating your thoughts, I hope you can include some pictures of the interface. Thanks!

Sold by sponsor Bumperplugs from around $750, sometimes cheaper during group buys and sales.
I just had an installer (recommended by my dealer in Marin County) quote me $1,100.00 for the tooki kit installed. Can anyone comment on whether that's a good deal?

He then quoted me $700.00 to install the parrot 3000 concealed in the ashtray. The unit is only $100.00 online, so this seems high.

Any recommendations for other installers in the SF Bay Area would be appreciated.

Swagner,

The Parrot is a much more complicated install than the Tooki. Lots of wires you have to connect to do it properly to get the audio system to mute, center speaker hooked up to the speaker level lead to get audio through the sound system (or you have to install another speaker for the Parrot), etc. The Tooki is simple, one fiber connection, and one power/ground connection. I'm guessing you could do it in less than 2 hours if you do it yourself even with no experience using the articles on this site.

The Porsche phone mic is separate to the one in the steering column used for the BOSE dynamic volume.

Alright guys gotta make this a quick one, i installed it last night, the unit is exactly the same as the BTA1000 there is no difference in size, the only difference is we now use both DP1 and DP2 (the little s-video looking plugs on the Gateway interface). Ipod plugs into DP1 and BTA1500 plugs into DP2.
The unit worked instantaneously for me. Plugged it in and you can see the home screen with the telephone line along with the date and temperature.
When you press telephone you can start pairing your phone, instructions included were very easy i was able to pair 3 phones and cycle between them on the go. It can disconnect and connect to a new phone very quickly.
In my particular case i have a HTC Tilt (8925) so it doesn't show the reception bars but it does download my entire phonebook which is nice (only drawback is that it has to download the book everytime i connect to the car). I really like the dial feature since it lets us use the actual keypad on the Nav unit.
For those iphone fans it works flawlessly with the iphone as well only thing is no reception bars but the phonebook seemed to download faster with the iphone than it did with the HTC.
I did attach some pics of the unit on the nav screen.

O yea it even has a line with missed call and shows how many missed calls, thought that was a nice feature.

The only downside i had in my install was when i called people they said my voice sounded far away but when i held the mic close to my lips they said its perfect, now i don't know if this is just my setup or if the Mic sucks because i experienced the same with the BTA1000 but on the same note there is absolutely 0 static or interference on the car side, you can hear the voice 100% clearly unlike the BTA1000 which always had a little static in it.

If anyone knows how to fix the mic problem or if theres a better mic to buy let me know and if anyone has any other questions let me know as well.

Nick did you replace the factory mic with the tooki mic or were you able to splice into the factory mic and use it? I can't seem to find a mic that works good for my setup so i am looking for an alternate mic.

The reception bars will be there in the next Gateway update.
How do you like the ABC-Search feature on the phonebook?

The ABC search feature is ok, it is a bit tiresome since you have to select ABC, DEF, etc and then click dial and then find the name. Would be nice if just pressing down the knob on ABC would bring up the ABC list instead of having to select dial after selecting ABC. But still can't complain its a lot better than the BTA1000.

I did notice the unit is having problems with the HTC Tilt its not completely compatible somtimes it won't dial ( i am sure updates will fix this in the future so not worried since its just the first release). The iphone on the other hand works flawlessly and so does the motorola razor.

GW500 maybe you can help me with my mic issue, i can't seem to get it in a good mounted position everywhere i place it the other side says i am too far away. Do you have any mic placement recommendations or maybe even replacement recommendation.

The screenshots look promising, I see they're making use of the Phone integration of the PCM.

GW500, will we see this unit available state-side soon?

this unit is already available state-side I am assuming by state side ur meaning here in the states. You can purchase the Gateway 500 from bumperplugs. They also have the bta1500 in stock but its almost $400 don't know why since you can buy it for 50 pounds from ipodyourcardirect, shipped came to about 130.
