Security system

All of a sudden my security system seems to have developed a mind of its own. It activated twice in my garage during the weekend [should not be a factor], and three times in the parking lot where I work [five days later, 20 miles from home]. No known 'intrusions' or activity around the car at the time it went off. Anyone else have a similar situation? It goes to the dealer this week for an exam.

Are you close enough the car could be receiving a signal from your key remote? On several occassions, I've seen mine de-activate as I approached my 'gator from a distance. Several times, I've turned the corner in a parking lot and seen her in the distance with her "welcome home" lighting on, initially leading me to think I left the lights on. Upon reaching the car, I found the lights out and the doors unlocked leading me to realize it had just been disarmed. VERY CREEPY, as I worried that she was unlocked and disarmed while I was away. Since then, I've gotten out my key before going to the car, so I know I'm not bumping it, and haven't had it happen again. Either there's a short in my key remote (which I've been unable to duplicate) or the button is so damn sensitive that it activates the alarm (and hence deactivates) from at least 1.5 blocks away, the farthest I've tested. I've also noticed that when I use the remote to unlock & open the rear hatch, about 25% of the time the car chirps while I'm arranging things in the back, as if I were trying to re-arm with an open door. I now assume I'm bumping the remote lightly.

Thanks gemars for your reply. The three times at work, my keys were in my jacket pocket in a hall closet and no one was nearby. The two in the garage, well the keys were in a dresser drawer in the house, my wife was with me near the garage, and the dog and cats are toostupid to open a drawer . . . Must be an electronic malfunction, either in the key or the main security alarm in the vehicle. I hadn't thought of changing the battery[s] in the remote. My fire alarm chirps when the battery is low, maybe this could be a similar situation on the car alarm. Thanks again.
