Can anyone recommend a good RadarDetector? Should it be installed by Porsche or your run of the mill audio/alarm shop? Thanks!!!

Escort Radar
At ESCORT, we're continually improving our line of radar and laser detectors with the best technology. Our latest invention, the GPS-powered PASSPORT 9500ix, is no exception. It provides the best long-range protection against every known radar and laser gun in use in North America, but also incorporates GPS accuracy to silence each and every false alert. It is by far the most intelligent, fully automatic radar and laser detector ever designed. You drive. It learns. End of story. http://www.escortradar.com
That is one of those topics that has come up so many times it seems like it is on monthly re-call. Do a search and spend the rest of the evening reading 'opinions'.
Have Valentine 1 in Ford Explorer/window mount. Escort 8550 x50 in Audi A6 /window mount and K40 in CS hidden in front .
All work well. Escort picks up more falses . V1 has useful directional arrow including rear. K40 in CS unfortunately is low to ground so have tobe more vigilant and observe blind terrain when flexing CS. Very happy with V1.

I heartily recommend the Escort Passport 8500 X50. I had both the V1 and the Escort, compared the two for a week, and sent the V1 back. For me, the V1 falsed way more than the 8500 did, and performance-wise the 8500 can't be beat - both in my own personal experience and thru various objective radardetector shootout tests (like speedzones.com and radartest.com). For me, the directional arrows are way overrated IMO. It's not that difficult to implement 'directional arrows' in a radardetector; if it was that important other manufacturers would feature it on their detectors as well.
Not saying the V1 is a bad detector - it's an excellent unit. But is it the best? Objective tests don't agree (except for one Car & Driver test performed back in 2002 when the X50 didn't exist yet).

V1. The directional arrows have saved my butt more than once. I have an Escort, and Ialways miss the arrows when I use it instead of the V1.
Falses are caused by more detector sensitivity. X-band is X-band, hard to sort them out except by ignoring 'falses', which means you may also miss a 'real'.
