Snorkel grill mesh

Just bought some nice black grill mesh to do a proper job of my side grill as per BJ's instructions in the articles section , I thought it would be simple to do the opposite side grill to match. Having taken the grill off it is very different behind compared to the snorkel side . Has anyone else attempted this ? Would be nice to be able to do both sides to match

Yep, there are no points on the non-snorkle side you can attach the grill to....
What u could try is to remove the black plastic (may be difficult, but can be done) from the inside of the body-coloured slats and attach the grill with plastic black ties....Somebody here has done it before, and maybe they can chip in.
Remember to post pics once you do it...goood luck, and dont break anything.

Havn't broken anything yet have noticed though how loose the tube is that goes from the grill to the air filter , im wondering if thats one of the annoying rattles I have . Ive firmed it up by putting some waterproof foam around it . Will let you know how I get on with the other bits .

I've installed grill mesh on the passenger side vents on my Caysman, and two other Caymans. I cut out two grill sections, upper and lower, for attachment to the painted exterior vent grill piece. As you have found, these two pieces must lay on the painted vent grill piece, but not interfer with the black plastic framing piece. From the local hobby shop, I purchased a few pieces of brass, rectangular box-section rectangular stock that measures 1/2 inch by 3/16 inch, by whatever length it came in--something like 8 or 10 inches. I cut these into 1 inch long pieces, and drilled a 1/8 inch hole clear thru both of the 1/2 inch sides. After scraping away some paint (I used a Dremel tool) six of the brass pieces are glued ( using 5- minute epoxy) into the painted vent grill piece-- two for the top and four for the bottom grill mesh pieces. You need to position the grill mesh pieces on the painted vent grill piece so you will know where to position the brass --you will be using screwing sheet metal screws into the holes in the brass, so you need to line-up some openings in the grill mesh with the holes in the brass pieces. Mark the positions, then glue in the brass pieces. Wait one hour for the epoxy to fully cure, the screw the grill mesh to the painted vent grill using the appropriate size sheet metal screws and washers. Assemble the painted vent grill to the black frame, then pop the whole assenbly back into your car. I have also made and installed grill mesh on the front of the car-- all three openings--and the rear diffusser openings. You might say I'm "all meshed up". I will try to get some new photos of my car today that shows the front, side and rear grill mesh.

Heres my pics , the intake side was easy , for the otherside I managed to do it in one piece. It was a very tight fit but I managed to slide it behind the centre slat that holds the grill in place .

Intake side

Other side !

I have enough grill left to do the rear slats , which I will do when I fit my new exhaust . The black race mesh was only £19 ($38 approx) for a meter long strip

Installer, any chance for a few clues on how to remove the passenger side exterior painted vent piece?

Hi BJ , in your article after you have taken the side vent out you take the black plastic backing plate off . On the other side you have to take the exterior painted vent of the backing plate to remove it (it's not really a backing plate on this side but the fixings are similar) there are two lugs at the top of the vent and one on the top and bottom slat . Ive put very crude arrows on this pic where they are ! If you start at the bottom lug and work up the top two should come out easily .

The last week I installed side grill mesh.

I trust Ken's words and J-copelannd's ones.

At first , to begin with the left side.

I've got ready the mesh cut along to the template John sent to me.

I also performed Desnork at the same time.

Instead of O ring, I used cable ties around the plastic pillar and attached with glue.

...and finish

Thank you, Ken and John ,here again.
You've guided me right!

As to the right side, I show the later.
