How do you get that deep exhaust sound?

Please excuse such a small question, but I have been wondering about this.

I just got my CaymanS 2007 about a month ago and love it except for a problem with the 3rd gear syncho (I'm getting a whole new transmission tomorrow).

Anyhow, I have a friend that has a Carerra S with the sport package on it. There is a sport button on the dash that when pushed, puts the car in sport mode and among other things, makes the exhaust sound deeper and fuller. I know this is an option for the Cayman S, but what actually changes on the exhaust that changes the consistency of the sound?

Can you modify a Cayman S without the sport package to sound like this?

Thanks in advance.

Jon

Welcome

Its a bypass valve that lets the exhaust vent around the muffler in some fashion. The Capristro aftermarket exhaust does much the same thing. Its not the sport package, its buying the Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) that counts. Yes, I think you can buy the PSE and have it retrofitted. Since you dont have the Sport button, it will probably cost a little more because they got to run a switch up to the dash.

Good luck!

Thanks.... is it worth changing it out or is it just asthetics? What about changing out the muffler? Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Jon

Asthetics only for the Porsche Sport Exhaust (search for that for more). If you want to mod your car to get more sound and maybe more h.p. stroll through the modifications forum looking for exhaust threads. There are many options and some are sponsors of the CC. Best bet is fine someone who has one installed to see if you like the sound since everyone's hears things a little differently

Yes, I would do as Santa Fe recommends. Read the install articles in the article sections and there are some sound bites in the file sections for aftermarket systems. PSE is sound bling only (at least Porsche makes no claims for more HP). Sound is a personal thing and people like different sounds.

you need to search the "free exhaust mod" links and threads. You can try it on your own car just using a socket wrench and a little WD 40.

Access to such a huge database of knowledge has got to be one of the best virtues of Porsche , so if anyone can help me with this, Id be grateful.

A friend of mine has just bought a new Cayman S, and specced it out with the Porsche Sports Exhaust. He likes the engine noise when he's giving some "beans" but would like the same when just cruising, to give it some presence.
The 996 PSE cheat seems to tick all the boxes, but Im not sure if this is applicable to the new Cayman.

Two questions.

Has anyone any details on how to perform the switch cheat on the Cayman S ?
Does the switch cheat affect the Porsche Warranty?

Best Wishes, any helpful replies gratefully received.
