Apr Tuned Software!!!

If you have followed any of my threads about software I have always said I wanted to wait until APR released the software for the 987 Cayman S. I have the Audi Stage 3 kit and love the EMCS options. (being able to switch programs on the fly via cruise control)

I went to NGP RACING an APR distributor in my area and purchased the software monday.

I love the way APR has all of these options.

Stock Program - basically stock settings dealer cannot detect the changes, car drive like the normal beast it is.

Chipped Program (91 or 93 octane)* - really wakes up the car, the butt dyno feels the difference at 2500RPM My car will be dynoed this friday, I will post the graphs

Valet Program - car cannot rev over like 2500RPM so you cant really drive over 20MPH, this is good for leaving your car somewhere that you dont want anyone to drive it off for a "test drive"

Race Program (100 or 104 octane)* - for at the track, HP increases will be more significant obviously since the car is tuned for higher octane.

Security Lock Out Feature - if someone knows how to use APR software and wants to switch between programs they cant.

Fault Code Erase and Throttle Body Alignment - when the car starts you run this to set the idle, it basically will tune your car depending on ambient temps, atmosphere where your car is. Also with Fault code erase you can clear that CEL on the fly.

Anti-Theft System - even with the key you cant start the car without entering a 4 digit code into the car via cruise control.

I am very impressed with the power difference. The car stills maintains the smooth acceleration, not rough like other software I've tried. The fact that you can switch it on and off by turning the car key, pressing the cruise control. It lets you see the tuning difference right there. I have a video of how it works, swiching from stock to 93 program. stock blinks once per second, 93 twice, 100 three times, etc.

Check out the APR site it has all of the information:
APR - High Performance Development for Porsche® Vehicles

APR is a sponsor (btw remind them they need to send me a banner ad to run here) so it is good to hear they are developing products for the Cayman. However, have you either dyno'd your car before or after with this tuning and have you placed it on a PIWIS tester to see if the programming can be detected? I ask because with Porsche's new detection scheme it detects the "hook" that programmers leave in the ECU to load different flashes on the fly. Of course some people won't care about that, but it isn't the same thing as actually having the stock Porsche programming FWIW.

Where is that engine cover BTW???

It will be on the Dyno Friday, stock mode then 93. The cover is still not ready. Should be done and finished this monday. I will call you. I will swing by the dealer to see if it can be detected.

Does your dealer know "how" to detect with the new PIWIS settings? If not, tell them to do a "CVN" check in Piwis and that should show you.

Did your installer have stock in hand of modified ECUs for your car, with them simply swapping your stock unit for the new one? Since APR makes a big deal about their daughter board being soldered to the ECU, I'm guessing the installers aren't doing that work.

Also, the "buy one now" price is $3999.00. That's more than $999... Any idea why that is?
