I called Ruf today and asked a few questions about the x51 engine swap. Basically $41,000 for engine, labor, ruf headers/exhaust, etc. No other major improvements (ie suspension/brakes, cosmetics, etc). This was higher than I thought. I was thinking in the neighborhood of 25k. It would seem crazy to buy a new cayman and have this done. Using a nice used cayman, this may seem within reach, although I don't know if it's worth the $$$.
Yes I have a few. Why do you need that much hp? What do you plan to do with that much power? Is it for bragging or for track or? HP for the sake of HP is fun but not always something that can be used in a fashion that makes any economic sense in the example of worth that you asked (unless you have unlimited funds).

Any thoughts??
Yes!
By all means contact Roger Gabow of our sponsor F-L and see what more you get from F-L for your money!

Gee, whose side are you on!
Why are you so against HP?

Oh not against h.p. but replying to the "economic" part of the OP's question. Keep the car three years, use the additional h.p. for thirty track days and do the math to see if it is "worth" it. It is more of an emotional question don't you think?
I'm with Santa Fe on this, unless of course you light your cigars with $100 bills. The X51 engine has the same pseudo dry sump block that Porsche uses for all the regular production sports cars and Porsche even states that the extra power X51 delivers on paper cannot be guaranteed by the factory. The premium people pay for X51 on the 911 ($17K) is never returned at resale which should say something about it's contribution to the car's value in the marketplace. A lot of dough for 86HP that the majority of drivers will never use. In fact w/o LSD on the Cayman the extra ponies are probably wasted. The only good deal is for the next owner who will probably pay about 4-5K for the $41K upgrade. As an aside, if you don't want to take a chance on negative responses, why ask the question in the first place?
LSD - Limited Slip Differential
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.

I would add that $41k is a nice down payment on a new Cayman in 5 years that will likely lay down darn near 86 more HP than today.
Do something practical. Spend the $41k on a Ducatti, track time, drifting school, and Rolex.
