Capristo Do-It-Yourself

My Capristo Do-It-Yourself article is finally posted, check it out. Some picture sizes need fixing but otherwise it's final. I've also posted a .pdf document of the Capristo control box programming instructions in the Files section after getting an OK from Nick Scianna the US distributor.

I've added a chart to the article listing the relationship of the control box settings to the engine rpm's that trigger the exhaust valves to open.

Great choice

looks great, unfortunately my cayman s wiring harness was cut by a really bad stereo shop Avenue sound in long island. So my car has been in surgery for about 3 months. All i have sitting on the floor of my basement is this beautiful Capristo Exhaust waiting in the box. Nick from Forza is such a gentlemen. He took care of me down to even getting a great shop local to me to get the job when I get the car back in about two weeks. Since this tragedy I am only adding the exhaust system. What other mods do you have.

My only other mods to date are the de-snork and an Evo intake but I’ve purchased the Snapflash software and will also add the BBI under drive pulley and the IPD plenum. If you have a single cat Capristo (one catalytic converter per side) it will trigger the check engine warning on your dash and you will need the Snapflash or an equivalent to cancel it.

Nice work on the detailed installation guide. BJ, you think you can also show us the connection diagram for the control box ? Initially, the valves wouldn't close no matter which button I've pushed. Now that we've checked the leaks on the vacuum, it seems like the valves remain closed all time. Whether we've reset the control box, the valves should close and open when the A/B button's been pressed right ?

Mookie. The control box black wire goes to ground and the red wire splices in to the red with blue stripe wire in the bundle adjacent to the grounding stud as shown in Ken’s article and mine. If the box is scrolling CAPRISTO with ignition on you should be hooked up ok. The valves fail open so the fact that they stay closed means you have a proper vacuum source and no leaks. If the S-1 setting is to high (850+) the valves will never open (although the dongle A button should override even that) so make sure your settings match those on the tech data sheet I posted in the Files under Cayman Documents in Information Guides as a starting point. If the box is set factory values and the valves still don't open you need to get advice from Nick. Good luck!

Hi Guy’s I have received many e mails on programming the control unit, some of you have first generation units, Capristo would like to exchange those out no charge as there is a chip that could go bad & the software is too difficult to operate.

When you turn unit, it should show on display 888 & then it scrolls through a few numbers etc. & ends up at 000.

If it displays CAPRISTO it has the first version software which is difficult to program. The factory is supplying new units for customers who have the first generation ones at NO CHARGE on an exchange basis. Please contact me via telephone at 360 410 1949 & I will get you a new version.

Please note, I do not personally own a Cayman yet so I am doing this on a bench with a 12 volt power source and a piece of vacuum hose to try to recreate vacuum etc.

To the left of the display, there is a tiny silver button, press it once & wait, the CLS should appear, then press it again & it should flash between as an example, the number 20 & CLS, this is the mill bar vacuum point when the valve closes, it should be pre set at 20 mill bar. If you select the far left button of the display it should flash between CLS & a number such as 20.
At this point select the right button above the right arrow, it will then say ti, that means time, at that point press the far left button & it will flash 0.

Zero = 3 seconds before the valves close at 20 mill bar.

If you then press the far right button once it will go to 1, each increment represents 3 seconds that the valves stay open or closed longer, depending if you are in CLS or OPN mode.

Factory pre set is 0 it should flash between the number & ti until you select a number or hit the button on the far left of the display. If you press the far left button again as it is flashing it will go into ti, which means time.

At that point if you select open with the far right button, it should flash between OPn & a value for example of 70, which means it will need 70 mill bar of pressure before it will open. I would probably recommend a setting of 85 to start out with

If you then press the left arrow button on the right side of the display it will show a rEt, I believe at that point it means return so you can move on to the next setting.

Every time you enter a number or change data, you must press the far left button in order to save the change. This should help with programming, I personally feel it should be left alone once you recieve a new version from the factory as it is pre set for the car’s optimum efficiency in HP & torque.

The vacuum tank is actually a pressure tank, it gets attached from the lines coming from the left & right muffler, then from the output of the tank it connects to the control box, where it says pressure. I will get Antonio to take a few detailed pictures & I will up load them to the site.

If anyone needs to get a hold of me for any Capristo questions that need to be answered quickly or a replacement part that needs to be shipped quickly, please contact me via telephone, my telephone is on 24hrs a day & I always answer it, unless I am on another line. I do travel a fair amount doing pre purchase inspections, trade shows, club events & clinics with respect to some other car marks that I am involved with, unfortunately I am not always behind a desk near a PC.

My telephone number is 360 410 1949, if you are calling internationally & I am on another line, please leave your name & telephone number & what time it is in your county when you called & I will get back to you quickly. Nick

For any who are interested I've finished updating this article extensively with many corrections and to incorporate installation procedure changes dictated by Capristo to eliminate any possibility of contact between the exhaust system and suspension components. The article also includes a correction to the hook up of the pressure tank which was initially installed as a vacuume tank per instructions with the early systems.
