Debadge a Cayman Safely

I would like to debadge my Cayman, and I'm wondering how to do this safely without damaging the paint. Thanks in advance.

Here is how I debadged my Cayman S. I don't have any paint damage.

1. Park in the hot sun. to soften the glue. (you might use a hair dryer in winter)
2. get some 12 or 18 pound fishing line (8 pound was too light)
3. slip the fishing line under the badge and slice the badge off.
4. remove remaining glue with microfiber towel and the car polish that you normally use.

note: press down firmly with the fishing line. Try to remove as much of the glue as possible during the slicing action.

I was amazed how easy this was.

glenn has it right!

1. I didn't have a lot of sun that day so I used a hair dryer.
2. Dental floss works well if you don't have fishing line.

I used a little rubbing alcohol to remove the adhesive then polished the area until the out line disappeared. Alcohol worked better than mineral spirits for this adhesive.

I used Glide Dental floss and it does help if it is heatted up and have no scratches. I have debadged many cars with this method.

I used waxed dental floss when I debadged my '01 Boxster. It also helps if the surrounding paint surface is well-waxed. I didn't like the Boxster script because it reminded me of black licorice. I like the Cayman script better, and also the titanium finish. While I like the clean look of a debadged trunk, I don't know if I'd like it on my car, and once it's off, it's not going back on again. I may eventually debadge after a few years of ownership. It's kind of like re-arranging the old living room furniture!

Hi Guys, have just found site and am quite amazed with the quantity and quality of information available. Its also refreshing to see such a well design and professionally thought out site.

Anyhow, I have also just removed the rear badges from my Cayman S, being in the UK parking the car in warm sunlight was not really an option (at least not in January) and as it was raining I decided against the hairdryer option.

So, for what its worth the following worked very well indeed. Simply cover the badge area with a thick absorbent cloth. I used a bathroom hand towel (so far no one has missed it!) then slowly poured very hot water onto it ( I used water from a kettle but waited a few minutes for it to cool) after three minutes I lifted off the (now very hot) towel, and hey presto, both badges peeled off along with the adhesive leaving no marlks whatsoever. Cheers, Kez

I've debadged many cars... even cars that have had the badges on for many years.

Best solution is to use a blow dryer or heat gun to warm the badge. Use waxed dental floss and if you can find it, some "goo gone" or "goop off" adhesive disolver (read the bottle and make sure it specifically says its safe for use on automotive paint). Put a little on the top of each badge, then work the floss carefully down behind the badge, cutting it off. Finally, clean up the left over gunk with more of the adhesive remover and the tip of your finger. Be careful that you don't rub any grit against your paint while rubbing with your fingertip.

When you're done, you should actually take a mild polish like the kind you can find by Mother's, Meguiar's or 3m. Do an area about 2-3x bigger than the badge. Follow directions on the bottle. Finish up with a nice wax.

Thanks Kez, that sounds like the easiest method so far.
