Question for owners that flashed their ECU (in regards with Sport Chrono)
I will definitely flash my car with Softronic - based on excellent reviews it received here.
I am interested should I still keep SC as an option on my car - I can still tweek my config for a few days.
I would like to know opinions of owners of SC equipped cars that have done the mod:
- Do you still use SC mode (and when)
- Are there any benefits of having it in a car with flasheded ECU
- Would you order SC again (knowing that you would flash the car)
- Question for non-SC owners: Are features like adjustment of lights/locking available with flash only (no SC)

there is some benefit of keeping the sc off during traffic and casual driving when the light is on it dulls downt he throttle response a bit so car is smother in traffic. Since my car doesnt see that ever i wouldnt bother. bu as a dai;ly driver it is nice

I use SC all the time because I like having less psm intervention but do not want to turn PSM off totally. I also think there is difference in power in sport mode.
I would turn off SC for snow and autox where there is less throttle re-map.
I also love the flash.
PSM - Porsche Stability Management
While it can’t overcome the laws of physics, the revolutionary Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system does lend an added degree of balance and control to the Cayman’s mid-engine driving dynamics, inspiring surefooted confidence in corners and extreme situations.
A standard feature on the Cayman and Cayman S, PSM continuously monitors steering input, road speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration to calculate the actual direction of travel. If the car begins to steer off line, PSM instantly intervenes with precision brake inputs on individual wheels to help bring the car back onto the driver’s intended path.
If braking alone isn’t enough to correct the vehicle’s cornering line, PSM then calls on the Cayman’s engine management system, adjusting engine output as needed to help stabilize handling. PSM can also compensate in an instant for mid-corner changes in load resulting from deceleration or braking. When Sport mode is selected with the optional Sport Chrono Package, PSM’s threshold for intervention is raised, allowing for greater driver involvement. If you prefer driving without automatic PSM assistance, the system can be set to standby at any time. In this case, it will only intervene under heavy braking, where both front wheels exceed the ABS threshold.
For all of its technical ability, PSM goes virtually unnoticed in everyday driving situations, preserving the Cayman’s natural agility.
Although I'm not the target audience, I'll give you my .02. I bought my Cs off the lot and it didn't come with SC. At first I was dissapointed b/c I'd wanted the more responsive throttle and higher PSM thresholds. I didn't like the wart that goes on the dashboard. Until the Softronic flash came out, I would have ordered SC if I had ordered another CaymanS. Now that it is available, I wouldn't. The cost is on par with the flash and I get quite a bit of hp to boot.

Yeah, "me too", I dropped SC from my shopping list of must-haves based precisely on that reasoning, and some lingering concern about the advisability of multiple throttle maps. Similarly, I dropped PASM from my list because the track rat consensus is that a high end non-brainiac suspension is faster, and lingering concern that the PASM algorithm would irk me, particularly given that the algorithm is a non-tweakable black box. (PSS Damptronic doesn't entail a firmware change.)
I would still like access to the SC elevated PSM thresholds, but that may yet show up in updates to the APR and/or Softronic firmware.
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Mine already has a higher intervention threshold. Do you want to have that threshold to be switchable?
You mean, Softronic (Slauson) already took care of that?
I think I'd prefer switchability but I don't know yet, as I don't get my car until tomorrow, and won't have good driving conditions for quite a while yet (snow falling, northern Idaho..).
What I really want, in terms of switchability, is the APR style cockpit control of active firmware (with 3-4 available for loading including a valet mode), combined with Slauson's sheer expertise. As I understand it Slauson's system requires one to use a Windows-running laptop with Internet access, connected through a custom cable to the diag port, to change firmware. Thus firmware cannot be changed in the field. Right?
