Swappin' cogs...

This was Bodhii's good idea: Under "Cayman Chat" there was a thread about "Motor Trend" loving the Cayman. In one of the Motor Trend articles about the CS, the auto journalist indicated that if one were to take out the first two gears in a CS and replace them with the Boxster's 1st and 2nd gears, the CS would have a shorter ratio than the 911, which would greatly improve the Cayman S's response off the line, making it just as quick as the 911. According to the article, the CS would then have a 0-60 time of about 4.5 seconds, as opposed to the 4.8 seconds that Motor Trend got for the CS. Questions raised by some of the Cayman Clubbers included wondering how difficult a mod this would be, as well as how much this would cost. Any of you technical types out there have any opinions regarding just such a cog swap?

I don't think that the mod of swapping 1st & 2nd gears on the CS has been fully explored on this site. There's been some discussion, but I'm not aware of anyone who has actually done it. I suggest you PM and/or email "Geary", as he seems to be the most knowledgeable poster for gearbox expertise.
