Hello guys, I posted a while ago a question about modifying the stock exhaust to recreate the sound of the PSE, but unfortunately got few responses and almost no interest whatsoever.
I did a quick 'paint' job to explain in more detail what I have in mind, and my question is... based on the pic provided, will it sound "similar" than the PSE, and is it in some way similar than the PSE?
I appreciate any feedback because this is really bugging me and I want to do it, but not before some opinions from my fellow cayman friends!

PSE - Porsche Sports Exhaust System
The acoustics of this dual-mode sports exhaust system are dependent on driving style, ranging from standard output during normal road driving to a more aggressive tone during performance use. Modes are selected using a button on the center console (or ‘Sport’ mode button on vehicles with optional Sport Chrono Package/Sport Chrono Package Plus).
Introduction planned for 04/2007. Some models may require additional components. For detailed information about this product, please contact your Porsche dealer.

My opinion is that if you add pipes bypassing your mufflers, your car will sound bad and be too loud.
But sound is an unpredictable thing.
I guess that depends on the diameter of the pipes used... , and remember also that the original mufflers will still work, just not 100% as some of the air will flow through the new bypass pipes...
Seems radical to alter the stock exhaust. Why not try an after market solution and then you can return to the stock if you don't like it?
IMO, this would be the radical solution since dishing out $1,000+ for a after market setup is the going rate. Well radical to me at least since all i want is to achieve some sound and not worried about hp numbers.
Get a second set of used 987 mufflers for cheap ($200 i paid virtually new) and open them up! I have a 993 buddy working on my "custom" exhaust, basically removing second set of cats and some packing inside the cans.
FWIW, I am almost positive that I came across this mod before, not on this forum but on another Porsche forum (sorry I don't remember which). Do some Googling and see if you can dig up answers. Use 'pse', 'exhaust', 'modification', etc to dig up some possible hits.

I'm debating if I should buy an exhaust... Remus in mind, but I wanted to try and play a little with the stock exhaust, for sound only, maybe save a few hundred bucks (thousand), what i mostly want is to recreate the PSE sound by doing some kind of bypass, harryo2b, thanks for the idea of buying a spare muffler to play with, that is a good idea, buy I might just play with mine and if I dont like it, I might just go aftermarket... but I wanted to see you guy's opinions.
Thanks and lets keep more ideas/opinions comming!

Actually $1000+ would be called a generic quote, I guess I should of said $2000+? Either way the point is that it would cost a lot for what one is trying to achieve purely sound wise.
Yeah- these systems for $4K are ridiculous. I spent $700 for a Corsa on my vette and it was the best thing I ever did, but $4K? I'll just growl to myself as I go down the road.

LOL~~!!! I too dont justify $1500 + for an exhaust... thus the reason of this post. I think some people would agree with me on this one, and would like a cheaper way to get the exhaust sound they want (free exhaust is not an option, done it, have it, hate it). I asked a very reputable muffler shop about the cost of the bypass pipes I wanted and I was told about $350 with new tips included.
Well I'd be cautious with home made solutions. Porsche optimized the gas cycle and back pressure to achieve the best power output given their worldwide noise restriction requirements. Hopefully aftermarket suppliers have achieved more h.p. by ignoring those restrictions but have done so with a lot of testing and dyno work. It would not be hard to decrease h.p while increasing sound without a lot of good engineering.
