Did anyone install the paste on carbon fibre mirror?

Anyone bought this carbon fiber mirror insert : eBay Motors: Porsche Real Carbon Fiber Mirror Insert 997 987 Cayman (item 300153253981 end time Dec-18-07 14:49:21 PST)

If you did, what type of adhesive tape did you use to paste it?

we installed this trim a few weeks ago on our Atlas Grey Cayman. i used the tape which came with the kit, which i hear comes off easily when needed. we are leasing, so it seemed a feasible way to go.

tips: you need to stretch the tape to get it thin enough so as not to leave a gap between the trim and your mirror. we did this, and there is still a gap although, to the untrained/non-perfectionist eye, likely unnoticeable. make sure you have some 3M painter’s tape (blue) on hand for marking where your trim goes before you apply the tape - lineup is essential as the CF pieces are molded to the shape of your mirror.

the CF looks great against the grey, …a little spark of individuality.

i regret not having the moxie to try the clear silicone adhesive i bought for the job, as i am under the impression that it would have made for a cleaner job.
such is the life of a lessee, or a "silly person." *shrug*

Do you know where to get the clear silicone adhesive? What brand?

I used double-sided 3m tape from Home Depot. The key is to fill as much of the inside of the insert as possible while leaving a bit of space on the edges. Then press in place. No visible gaps. If you look closely enough you can tell that they are on top of and not "built in" to the mirror housing.

I think they look great. They match my wing.

Mine were perfect on my first car, then I moved them to my second car. No problems.

I've not seen these in person but the fake carbon fiber on my workers Honda looks really fake - sort of like laminated floors vs real tile. Is this more realistic?

It isn't fake carbon fiber. It IS carbon fiber.

...but it does not actually reduce the weight, etc. as it is attached to the outside of the mirror. the pieces are quite stiff and molded to fit exact. this is not a piece of patterned plastic wrap - actually quite awesome if one is looking for relatively inexpensive trim bling.

someday we will get the wing to match... so mesmerizing, and functional!

now i miss my car. jeez.

I used stuff that has more thickness...a bit of sponginess I guess.

The nice thing about these pieces is that they fit the contours of the mirror housing perfectly and the "tail" tucks in and hugs the area where the mirror is attached to the car. Very little "sticky force" is required to lock them in place. Out on the road, there are no forces that work to blow them off.

No washing that is safe for the car could possibly get them to come off. If you are concerned about accidentally washing off you "Cayman" logo on the rear deck, then you might be concerned.

My fear was that the adhesive would not hold on a 110 degree day. The black CF would probably reach a surface temp of 130 parked in the sun. I tugged at them under those conditions and, again, they were just as firm as the logo on your car.

I was thrilled that I could get them off intact, in fact.

If you like the look, get them. I like how they accent my car along with black spears, CF wing, black intakes, CF door sills, CF GT3 grill (awaiting install). Others like to keep their cars pristine. We are all different, yet bound by a common love.

The extra 2 grams of weight on each mirror helps to anchor the car during hard cornering.

You need a die cast model to play with when needed.

Didn't understand it was real. Pretty good price then. Your red car is getting nice looking with your tasteful changes.
