Does Softronic software replace Sport Chrono option?

There are so many Cayman S on the market without the Sport Chrono option that it makes it hard to find one that I want.

My must have option is the Sport Chrono since it makes the car seem faster when I drove it. Does the Softronic software do everything the sport-chrono option does?

Or is there still an advantage to having SC in addition to the Softronic software?

(If Softronic software does the same thing as SC, then it will make my search for a used Cayman S much easier)

Yes and no.

Most ECU flash programs (Softronics and others) remap the e-throttle response much the same as SC, yielding a more responsive gas pedal.

However, SC does other things in addition to the remapped throttle which the flashes do not accomplish:
(1) elevated PSM intervention levels for "normal" and "sport,"
(2) a driver selected choice of the normal throttle mapping (which may be desired for better control/modulation on track, or wet or slippery surfaces) or the sport throttle,
(3) PASM sport activation (if PASM is installed), and
(4) no potential for warranty issues.

In addition, for resale, a flashed ECU will turn off some buyers, while SC may be a desired (or at worst a neutral) feature.

Actually the Sport Chrono feature of the Softronic flash does all the things the regular factory Sport Chrono feature does, it just doesn't have a button (although Softronic said that was an option) and doesn't have the clock on the dash. I don't know of any other flashes that give a complete Sport Chrono feature set, but I could be wrong, if another tuner's does as well then please list it here.

From what I can tell, yes it would, but you have the ability to reload your old software back on so no one would be able to tell.

If your going to do it, being able to revert back is a good thing.

I haven't driven a sport chrono car yet so I don't know if its worth $900

Jeff

Ok, I have a Sport Chrono. It was my understanding that it was just a timing package for track use or whatever. Does it do more that just operate as a timing device? Can anyone suggest a better thread to learn about it?
