window tinting on my white cayman

hello, i am a proud owner ( 4 days old) of and 08 white cayman, with light beige interior. I just had the windows tinted yesterday by porsche. I got 38 percent on the side windows.

I told them that i really want to be seen in my car, and that this 38 percent would let me be seen. But as i look at it , it just looks dark to me. and i cant see from outside in too well.

Since my main goal is to be seen, maybe i should have the tint removed.
it really makes the white of the car "pop", I love how it looks , but i want to be seen very easily.
any suggestions?

Tinting for anything other than a person's personal perference on appearance is not needed in the Cayman. For the reason you discussed I hate tinted windows. Driving along someone with dark tinted windows where you cannot establish what the driver is up to is very dangerous. You need all the hints you can get now days. Tinting is one of those "must dos" by some but even in the hot summer in NM it isn't needed except as a visual accent for those who like that sort of thing. Take it off.

I got mine tinted (35%) because I think it does make a difference in keeping the car cooler in the summertime (particularly on the back window) and cuts down on the annoying glare you get thru the side windows that you can't block with those tiny sun visors.

If you are getting tinting for those reasons, you could go to a lighter tint (e.g. 50%), which to my eye is barely different than the OEM - so it won't have as much impact visually. Also make sure you get the tint without the reflective (mirrored effect) surface if you want to be able to see into the car more easily.

Agree with Kor. 38 is pretty light. I have 35 on my CS and have NO problems seeing through it. Give it a week and you'll get used to how light it actually is. If you decide to take it off, it should be fairly easy to remove within the first couple of months.

Sounds like what you actually want is V-Kool 70. If the 38 really doesn't work for you after trying it for a bit, yeah, rip it off (there's right and wrong ways to do this btw, do your research). If come a hot sunny day you feel the need, track down a shop with V-Kool and get the VK70 put in. It stops essentially all IR and UV. A little more expensive and harder to apply properly, but it's what NASA used on Skylab (IIRC). What's not to like?

Just had mine done at Advanced Window Tinting on Sunbeam and Hood. I like them cause they computer cut everything and were very friendly guys. Didn't even mind me hanging out and asking them questions while they worked.

Tinting in Texas

Here in southeast Texas, tinting definitely helps cut down heat gain. I can understand wanting to BE SEEN in my Cayman but don't want them to see me sweat. Inside temps can reach 120 degrees in minutes.

Also, tinting the windshield is illegal here in Texas. But I'm planning on tinting the rest as dark as legal.

Why is it so important that you are seen in the car, Im a bit confused, tinting in my opinion is to create shade and a bit of disguise?

I too live in SE Texas and agree that tint is a must. It justs gets too hot in the summer not to have tint on the car. I got 35% (most I can do legally in TX) all the way around with the exception to the windshield of course. I got Huber Optik which is a ceramic covered film that really cuts down on the heat. It is a personal preference, but I really like the way it makes my car look.

wow , 35% is pretty light . i personally like my windows DARK , and have 15% all around .it is a nice contrast to the guards red exterior .i also live in South Florida and without tint , the heat in the summer is unbearable .
