Porsche Short shifter

Update on Porsche short shifter...I had my local porsche dealer install the shifter today and Wow... what a difference! The key to making it even more desireable is the addition of BG Ultra Guard transmission fluid. SAE 75-90...part#750. This makes the shifting very...very smooth even in cold weather. If you put in the shifter already, trade out your fluid...you will be happy you did. By the way they sold me the shifter for $399.

$399 is a pretty good price, but how much did the dealer charge you for the install?

Two hours labor at your local dealer rate.

Roger Jobs Porsche in Bellingham, WA charged me 1.5 hours & $187.50 for the install. My short shift kit cost $413.86, a bit more than your cost.

I fitted a short shift kit to my 987 boxster S and agree its a very worthwhile mod. In my case I opted for the B and M option , buying a replica part from E bay for a fraction of the cost. Now i'm convinced by the short shift , i may well change it out for the original Porsche unit. The B and M version is just slightly a shorter throw. My only reason for swapping the B and M for the porsche unit is that the OEM device has slightly less free play , and keeps the car authentic. If you plan to fit one of these short shifts yourself , i'd suggest getting the lock bridge (a 2 dollar part) to set the linkage before marking and disconnecting the cables. This ensures the new selector goes back in the correct location. The OEM short shift comes complete with the new lock bridge part for setting the cables.
