So, what's the deal with the factory exhaust tips? Do they come off relatively easily?
I do like the look of the round chrome tips that the XLA option provide and have time to change my order to add them for $340. Or am I better off waiting and seeing what becomes available after-market?
One nut to loosen to remove it appears. I was all set to get chrome until I did a bit of work on them (you can search here) with some Halls, silver polish and Stainless Steel Magic. They are now bright, look more workman like than chrome to me (purposeful) and stay that with a bit of attention with a rag with the Stainless Steel Magic sprayed on it. So you might want to wait and play around with them before deciding.
I was going to take them off to hand polish them but didn't need to.
I believe the chrome exhaust tips will be available at www.boothedesign.comand it might be a group buy. At present there is a group buy for the colored center wheel crest from the same guys (sponsor)
Are the XLA tips even available yet? I haven't heard of anyone who has actually got them. The stock tip is the only thing i don't really like on the Caymen, so i'll be changing them out as soon as some nice round tips are availble.

Here is the reply to my inquiery from Ralph Boothe with respect to chrome exhaust tips:
' I only have a few of them to start with. They are a high grade stainless steel. I found an excellent polishing shop and the owner of the shop almost talked me out of plating the tips. They look chrome now as they are polished to a mirror finish and will be easy to take care of in that all you would have to do to keep them up is to polish them with a cloth and some metal polish. I do intend to plate some of them and plan to black nickel plate some of them. This will have to be your call. I just sent one to Ken Smiley today for his car and some pictures. I can ship you one tomorrow. The price is $100.00 each on an exchange basis as they cost $318.00 each retail, so I must have your tip returned to me in exchange. It must be without dents and deep scratches. I will charge you an extra $200.00 core charge to be retuned to you upon receipt of your good condition tip. That is just the way I must deal as some have had very short memories and did not return an exhausttip to me. I also hope we can get enough people on the group buy. I can ship you this item with your supplying us with a credit card number. Do my otherneat items turn you on? That is such asmy wheel hanger, wheel bolts, and soft socket? Regards, Ralph T. Boothe'
My tip is en-route and should be here Friday at which time I'll take pictures of the tip as well as the removal and installation process. Then I'll send my old tip back to Ralph. Your tip looks pretty good in my opinion, but I haven't seen the one from Ralph yet.
jhellow, that looks good to me as well. Mineare just a bit shinier (perhaps the silver polish?). It is personal taste and a toss up between polishing and chrome plating but to me the car looks a bit more like a tool with them polished and more like a show car with them chromed.

Any pictures of the black nickel? I am getting a black cayman and would like to see how that looks.
Check the exhaust tip section of our web site, www.boothedesign.com . They are at the end of the gallery section on our site, so give that a look and see how you like. We do the tips for all Porsches.
