To install an underdrive pulley, you need a shortened 24mm socket to do the job right -- there isn't enough space to get a torque wrench in there with a standard socket. Since people are starting to get their pulleys from the BBI group-buy, and at least a few people will install it themselves, I thought folks might like to buy a shortened socket, rather than going through the hassle of shortening one themselves (it's a pain without access to a lathe).
To make life a little easier for the do-it-yourselfers, I can cut down sockets on my lathe. These are 1/2" drive, NAPA store-brand sockets with a lifetime warranty (although, I don't know if the warranty will still be valid after shortening). Cost is $10 plus shipping (shipping by USPS priority mail, within the US, would run $6, which includes the cost of packaging). Please PM or email me if you'd like one.
I cut mine off with a hacksaw. It didn't take very long.
If anyone wants to shorten a socket with a hacksaw or a grinder, go for it. It's just that I have a lathe, and it's much more efficient than using any hand tools, and gives a much better looking result. I shortened a socket last night, in preparation for the "pulley party" later today -- it looks like a factory-made short socket, except there is no chrome on the cut end.
I just thought it would be helpful to offer to do this for other folks. If you don't want one, no big deal. It's not like I'm going to get rich from these.
I saw Bill's socket first hand yesterday. Wow, thought they were purchased, super smooth, you cannot tell they were cutoff.

I just received Bill's shortened socket (delivered in 2 days by Priority Mail) and I must say, it's a work of art. Beautiful job Bill. If I didn't know, I'd swear it was unaltered.
Since I'm doing 3 UDP installs this weekend, and I've got a busy work week, the saving in time alone to go buy and then hacksaw or Dremel a socket is well worth many times the few bucks I could save by doing it myself.
Props to Bill for his kindness and generosity in offering his time, talent and equipment to this virtual community.
I do them to order, and can always get more "raw materials" from NAPA. It doesn't take long to set up the lathe, I just prefer to do them in batches (takes less time per socket).
If you still want one, or anyone else wants one, send me a PM.
Any one else want one? An order I had anticipated didn't happen, so now I have an extra short socket all done and ready to go. If you want it, just send me a PM.
Hello Bill,
I was planning to install the pulley this weekend, do you still have any shortened sockets available? Please let me know, thank you.
