I Bought a Remus Exhaust and a B&M SS

Hey guys, I just placed an order today for the B&M Short Shifter (thanks Eric @ Bumper Plugs!) and last thursday was for the Remus Exhaust.

I will do the install myself on both. I am all but mechanically inclined... hope that doesn't get in the way during the install.

I've studied all the exhaust install articles, and it just seems obvious, I find no reason why I wont be able to do it. I will buy the jack stands and some beer along with the help of a friend (also not mechanically inclined) and lets see how it goes.

For the short shifter I hope it goes smoothly too, because one thing is the exhaust, which in any emergency case I can run to a shop to have it adjusted or installed if that is the case (with straight pipes LOL) but in the other hand, I see no way of going to my Porsche dealership with no shifter.

Any recommendations anyone who'se installed the B&M?? Any particular link/article I should focus on? What about the exhaust install? Any specific tools needed?

Exhaust should be here between tomorrow (wednesday) or Friday. Shifter I say give it a week. Once I receive either one, I'll do the install the very same day.

Thank You all!

K-Man S, could you please not move this thread to the Boxster Mods?? Over there is quite slow, and I thought I'll get no views, thus not much help!! With this kind of mods, the caymans and boxsters really not differ much, so I guess this might not only help me or boxster owners, but cayman ones too! That is why I still pray for the boxster section to merge with the cayman one... we're a very insignificative community here anyway.

Thanks!

If you're pulling the exhaust out, put a TBD in!

I just checked with Fedex and my Remus Exhaust is arriving tomorrow, so tomorrow will be the installation (San Valentines day, me and my p-car), and the SS is arriving after tomorrow (Friday). Should I do an intall article?

ps. by the way, I uploaded a video on youtube showing what my exhaust sounds before the remus, I currently have the Free Exhaust Mod with a little pre-muffler mod I did myself, the video can be seen here YouTube - 987 Boxster S Exhaust

I think I followed "Evo shifter" install article to install B&M, it's pretty detailed. The only note is expect to spend around 3 hours on it if you're doing it for the first time.

Do you know if the "cage" has to be modified too? Or it is only a straight bolt on with no modifications?

987bs - two things about the B&M installation.
first, a set of plastic trim removal tools will help greatly (there is a LOT of trim.)
secondly, the master screw under the radio console is a bit tricky. there are special tools mentioned for it in the article, i believe, which i did not have. very difficult to work with a typical-shaped driver. see if you can get the bottom of the console to come out - it is your best bet. i wasn't. if you search for "SSK" in images, you'll see some pictures of my install. also some words of frustration around the install in my blog (see link in sig.)

g-luck!

you'll need to cut the bushings, I think that's all. Also, when you start picking plastic trim apart, the female portions of the clips have metal inserts, that you clip male inserts into. Make sure you don't loose those, otherwise your trim won't hold together.

the purist and grrlsix,

Thanks for the heads up. I will buy a plastic trim cutter and well, I'm almost finished memorizing the step procedures for the evo install found on the articles section. I just cant imagine cutting plastic in an irreversible way and doing it incorrect! Well, I guess once I have the piece in front of my and my center console off, I'll figure out how to do it.

There is notheing that cant be done -- that is my motto.

Exhaust is arriving supposedly today, it is already 4:30 pm but in the UPS site it says it is still scheduled to arrive today, so I'll keep you guys posted. If it arrives later, then later will be the install, I cant wait another day LOL.
