Hate to say it JHS, but if your job is that restrictive that you can't plan a few days off almost a year out, then you may want to consider another job. My brother has his own business and never takes any time off either so I know where you are coming from. Life is too short for that! Take some time off, have some fun!
Ha ha ha... Please, tell me something I don't think of every single day. I'm an attorney. I practiced at big firms in NYC for about 6 years before deciding life was too short, and moved to Philly for a "slower" (but just barely) pace. We get 20 or so days off a year -- I already have 2 important trips overseas planned -- one to see my father, sister and other family, who live about 3000 miles away and who I haven't seen for over a year, the other to Singapore for the Formula 1 GP -- a night race this year I believe -- which is quite possibly one of the coolest things I've ever done. Add to that, this year has been a difficult one for me healthwise (I won't go into details -- I'm sure you understand), and I've lost about 2 weeks already which I have to make up (we have to bill around 2100 hours minimum).
So as you can see, I'm kind of screwed... Every *single* day I have to get away is extraordinarily precious. And if I don't want to lose my GF, I have to find a few days to take her someplace warm...
Sorry for the "sob story" -- but that's life for me I'm afraid.
JHS I can help you with your billing problems at the firm, at least if you are involved in litigation I can... PM me your firm name and I can pull a firm 360 on it and tell you whether or not I can help, but odds are I probably can. That would give you a couple of days to visit Atlanta in the first week of October when it will be unseasonably warm.

That's an awesome thing to do. Hope it works out!

Thanks, that's very nice of you to offer. I personally specialize in large commercial real estate/finance (including corporate acquisitions, development, sale-leasebacks etc.) but my firm has many practice areas, among them a very strong corporate/business litigation practice. I will PM you now.
Wow - after reading your story, my heart goes out to you. 20 days?! Please tell me that doesn't include weekends. Life is seems cruelly ironic sometimes. You can do well financially but not have time to enjoy it. I really hope all your hard work pays off huge and you get to retire early or something! Sounds like you deserve that. Hope K-Man S' plan works too. Like he said, it will be warm there so bring your girlfriend. May not be a tropical paradise but a nice get away.

Thanks, I appreciate it... Yeah I know -- lawyer jokes are fun, but we do work *really* hard. I'm certainly not unique in that regard --most firm lawyers have the same issues. We don't get much vacation and we can't even usually take the vacation we do get (bill bill bill pressure). I think something went horribly wrong in the '80s and 90's, during all the "boom" cycles, when as an industry we got the bankers and business people used to the idea that legal services can be 24x7. Now firms are staffing more leanly, which means more work for everyone. Still, this is much better than NYC, where I really had NO control... I've been doing this for a few years now and have finally learned how to set some boundaries (and unlike in New York, or example, so far I've managed to have most of my weekends to myself -- in NY I usually worked at least 2 weekends a month).
Anyway, enough about me!! Don't mean to hijack the thread. Back to Croctoberfest!
Am going to try to make it down to Atlanta. My girlfriend spent 3 years in Athens, GA, so she might find it fun too...

OK folks.... Croctoberfest is coming up real quick and I think lots of people will be looking forward to our 'Exhaustive Research' event. It's been some time since SpinDoc hatched this wonderful idea, and since we discussed it. So, let's confirm the participant roster. So far, we last left off with:
Am I missing any brands? We still have many openings. We are looking for a few good cars to represent the vacant brands above. Anyone......? Bueller.......?
