How does is take for a bra to start to turn yellow?
I need to decide whether or not I get a bra installed.
I have read several posts where people say that bra start pretty quickly to develop a yellowish color. I plan to keep my car for 6-8 years. It will be garaged and covered. Will a bra start to turn yellow pretty quickly within that 6-8 years time frame?
The bra will discolor as any chemical in the sun. But the real issue is how will it look with 'my color' after several years? I think the bra's advantages FAR outweigh a slight miscolor after time. Is on a white car, or a darker color?
I think the yellowing will only show up if your car is white. I've had my clear bra on for about 7 months and it's saved me two times already. Even if it does end up yellowing on you, it's much easier to replace a bra then get a whole bumper resprayed.
I had the same concern a month ago. I decided to do the install on my white cayman. It's only been a couple weeks since the install.
I've had several clear bra installs prior to the Cayman, but only one white car. I only owned that car for 4 months though, so I'm not sure what will happen after time. I clean my car weekly and wax about every 2-3 weeks.
What worries me is that the factory 3M film around the side vents are yellowed. I'm not sure if it's because the previous owner didn't take care of it or it's just normal aging on white. The car was originally delivered in Aug 2007 and I bought the car in late January 2008 with 3k.
I think you'll be fine with a silver car and regular cleaning of the film as per manufacturing instructions. I remember years ago when film first started being used on cars that yellowing was a problem, but things seem to have constantly improved.
Since your car will be garaged and covered, I wouldn't be too worried. Hopefully our sponsor Premire will chime in since this is what they specialize in,

Time will tell.
The stuff on all Porsches on the fender flares are usually yellow by the time it gets to the customer - for white cars. The material Porsche uses is different from what installers on the market are using, so you will not have that type of effect. On white cars, you will notice a very slight tonal difference from the start, but it is not visible in most lighting. Just keep your film wash / waxed once a month and you will be ok.
for those interested in seeing what the finished product looks like whether it is a kit or an entire car, we are hosting a fair sized event for our customers - Premier Customer Engagement Day - Sign up List
Come by and take a look! - have plenty of white cars done by us as well.

That's good to know... I think I'll replace the factory ones then. The front film is great... you barely notice it at all. Thanks for the info!
The current 3M films are not only far superior, IMO, to the old films but also to the **** that Porsche puts on their cars in the factory.
If you find a good installer (arguably more important than the film itself) and you take a bit of time for some monthly or quarterly TLC for your clear bra (which you should be doing for your paint anyways) you should get years of use without seeing any yellowing that the old products are associated with.
IMO, the problem is that people are used to the old products and/or they've seen a crappy clearbra installed. And just like the proverbial one bad apple, one bad clearbra can impact many people's perceptions.
