the right set up

hello I am a new cayman s owner as of 3 weeks I would like to get some performance upgrades I have been told:

miltek headers/exhaust
auto authority ecu
evo intake

this for $7000 with a dyno before and after runs

Is this the best set up for a cayman s and is this a fair price?

also I live in the Hartford CT area and if anyone could tell me what shop would be the one to choose in CT.

thank you for all your help and hello to everyone

This may no be what you want to hear, but I suggest you put your money back in your pocket (for a while at least).

I am not saying that the suggested modifications have no value (I have no idea), but to wait until you are certain as to how you are going use the car.

After three weeks it is doubtful that you are driving the car as hard as it will handle and it is therefore likely that you are not extracting anywhere near the full potential of the car (even in a straight line). Add to this that if your car is new and not broken in that the engine is still very tight and will get much better as is wears in a bit.

Also, if you ever plan to do any competitive driving (even Autocross) the modifications you suggest will just kill you on classification and make the car not competitive against cars that use their points for suspension, tires, etc.

I am not anti-modification, at least not anymore (my car is a bit of a Frankenstein); I just think that it is a bit premature to spend that kind of money on basic engine modifications.

To each his own.

Cheers,

Since you're in CT, definitely pay a visit to Farnbacher-Loles in Danbury and talk to the folks there. They have a lot of experience with tuning Porsches.

I second the comments of the previous 2 posters.

Also, when you're ready for more HP, you can get a lot more bang for your buck with a Borla catback (about $1500, approx. 18 rear wheel HP), and the Softronics plenum/flash (about $1700, approx. 30 rear wheel HP). This will provide more HP for less cost.

I'm not familiar with the auto authority ECU, but it sounds like you are being offered a package deal by some shop, in which case it sounds a little high to me. To date, I don't think anyone has defined a "best" set-up to increase HP in the CS; while the mods you are proposing will likely increase your HP, there are a lot of other choices out there.

I tend to agree with Krokodil that you might want to do a little more research (like on this website) on what's available before you jump in for that kind of money right away. Just my . . .

Agree with what the people said, wait till you've had more time with your car at stock first!

Ohhh GTI, I had a 04 with everything but a bigger turbo on it. No where near the power of 325 I think best run on 100 octane was 227. Loved it really, it was paid off I should of kept it. You miss the turbo pushing you back in the seat, I know I do. But yeah the Cayman is so smooth I find myself speeding all the time, not meaning to. Wouldn't trade my Cayman for a GTI now, but I did love that little car. Nothing better than beating guys with V8's with your little "rabbit".

Congrats on your new Cayman by the way , pics?

So far I have spent my money on fully adjustable coil-overs, testing various suspension configrations, tires, silicon break fluid and lots of driver training/track time. They have been better bangs for buck in terms of track times compared to some friends with r-specs (no coilovers) and another with lots of engine mods. So I guess mods are a personal thing and depend on your own needs.

FYI next on my list is a pyrometer, acurate TPMS, video, telemetry, lots more track time, lite weight wheels and r-specs and then perhaps the softronic programming and plenum, maybe a miltek or similar exhaust.

I also think it's a good idea to do these things incrementally.

Good luck.
