Anyone with a remus exhaust knowledge - I've got a question.

Hey fellow troublemakers...

question for anyone who's seen Cayman Remus exhaust in the metal - last week I received one from our sponsor Modacar, went to the shop to install it last weekend, and it appears one of the pipes is dented out of shape (see images)

So I called Modacar this morning, and they said they had the same question out to Remus when they first saw their exhaust arrive, and that Remus assured them the dent was "by design".. I can only suppose as a solution to a "fitment" problem;

Now, methinks that if all Remus Cayman exhausts come with a similar dent (and it's there for a reason), then it's weird, but it's ok... but it's still weird.

However, if it's just me... then I would think that Remus, modacar and I need to talk about it

Thanks for your insight, in advance.

Talked to James and that's how they solve a clearance issue for suspension....

my remus did not have that dent. why would the dent be on one side and not the other?
i watched my install and do not remember a difference between the two sides that would require that dent.

My Remus did have that dent. I assumend it was shipping damage and took it to a local metal shop that heated it up and got it almost perfectly round again. I did not have clearance problems installing.

Alex, Curv_ETR and Esaam, thank you for your replies. Here's the latest development:

I called modacar, and got a phone number for Remus USA, where they told me the same story - the dent is supposed to be there because otherwise the pipe will "interfere with suspension components", I offered that I got feedback from several folks at CaymanClub not seing anything like that on their Remus exhausts, to which the gentleman suggested I call Remus production facility in Austria and verify with them directly. So I have a phone number for Bernd and Vincent, who I'm going to try to reach tomorrow and figure this thing out.

If you (or anyone with Remus) can, please verify whether or not the dent is there. That would be great. It's on the bottom (asphalt facing) of left tube.

On a side note, while it's hard to say from the pictures I posted, the dent appears to restrict roughly a quater of the airflow, which is ultimately what I'm so excited about..

thank you all.

-Vlad.

Thanks! Hmm.. that's interesting.. We're getting closer to the truth, as it now appears that more than one package came with a dent.. The most curious bit is that with or without, either way there isn't a reason for it... That's what's screwing with me... And boy does it look ugly...

OK, I spoke with Vincent @ Remus in Austria.
While he didn't know off the top of his head whether that dent was supposed to be there for this particular exhaust, he did say that sometimes they make corrective dents to existing products to adjust to factors such as vehicle new lowering specs etc...

He did promise to look into it and let me know:
1. When they started making the dent and why, and
2. Whether or not they can produce a tube without a dent and ship it to me.

Will keep you posted.
