06 987 Boxster S "high-performance" headers

When looking at the 987 Boxster Product Information guide and PET parts catalog, I saw that for 06 "The Boxster S uses a high-performance manifold which facilitates an improved gas cycle for significantly higher output." This is a direct quote, including the use of bold, from Porsche's Product Information guide.

In 2007 all Boxsters went to the Cayman style manifold/headers. The Cayman part looks identical to the lower-performance "Standard manifold." The P/N's for the left/right high-performance manifolds are

987 113 106 06
987 113 105 05

I suspect that the Porsche 987 Boxster S "High-performance manifold" would provide improved performance for the Cayman, too. It's available from Tischer's online parts outlet for $1714 a set, not much different from aftermarket headers. Presumably one wouldn't have to worry about failed cats on the Porsche headers.

Does anybody know why Porsche stopped using these high-performance headers??

There was that whole ordeal with 2006 Caymans tripping CEL lights because they used higher flow cats (500cel) and dealers replaced headers with 600 cel cats, perhaps the 500 cel design was the high performance manifold?

It will be interesting to see what headers they fitted to the RS60 version of the Boxster.

I don't think so. The Cayman parts catalog does not indicate that the high-performance Boxster S headers were ever fitted to any Cayman.

At $1714, these Porsche Boxster S Sport Headers are a real bargain. The various aftermarket headers with cats are much more expensive:

Fabspeed $2565
Milltek $3000
Cargraphic $4200
etc.

Note that many of the aftermarket headers have had problems with cat failures (Milltek & Fabspeed for sure - I haven't heard anything about Cargraphic). That wouldn't be a problem with the Porsche headers...

I think someone's having profit fun with you, the retail price of the part numbers you gave is only $1008.

Each or for the pair? The price I quoted was for the pair. I checked using Tischer's online parts page. I've found them to have very good prices in the past...

Hmm.. I'm not sure...that's a good point. Must have been each, so in that case $1714 is a good price.

Are you gonna get a pair and give 'em a try?

I'm sorely tempted... It seems that some of the gains from the aftermarket headers must come from the "race" cats with fewer cells per square inch, so the factory headers might not perform as well as the aftermarket units. But they're a lot cheaper, and I really don't want to deal with failed cats. They must provide some benefit, or Porsche wouldn't have bothered to develop and install them on the Boxster S.
