What mods to get? (simple installs or aesthetic only?)
Hi there, I just got my 2007 Red Cayman S and was wondering what mods to get? (First thing I bought was a radardetector, haha)
I have the standard wheels center caps, and was looking at colored caps on ebay. Is that a simple pop off, pop on install?
I have been reading this board for awhile and due to the wealth of info on here, I got my Cayman S and am very happy with it. Thanks everyone!!
Escort Radar
At ESCORT, we're continually improving our line of radar and laser detectors with the best technology. Our latest invention, the GPS-powered PASSPORT 9500ix, is no exception. It provides the best long-range protection against every known radar and laser gun in use in North America, but also incorporates GPS accuracy to silence each and every false alert. It is by far the most intelligent, fully automatic radar and laser detector ever designed. You drive. It learns. End of story. http://www.escortradar.com
There aren't a lot of options for simple, inexpensive cosmetic mods, but I think that's just a testament to how good the standard car is. The ones that come to mind for me (use the "search" function on this site to get more info) are:
1. Clear sidemarkers - available from Suncoast for about $30
2. GT3 center vent - the part itself is about $30, and it requires you to cut into your bumper to install it
3. New exhaust tip - Agency dual round tips are the nicest IMO (about $300), but you can also choose one of the Porsche ones (for a little more money).
4. Colored wheel crests - you can go with the Porsche ones for about $200 (yes, they just pop-on and off), or with Boothe wheel crests (billet aluminum and much higher quality, but about twice as expensive)
5. Red taillights - not my preference, but a lot of people on this board like them. But they're also not that cheap, so you'd have to really like them as an upgrade. I don't recall the exact price, but I think they're in the $600 range.
6. Painted foglight spears - a few people have done this - painting them black or silver. If you can DIY, it's less than $20 for the paint.

$339.99 from Tischer Porsche (CaymanClub Sponsor)
You can either buy those or you can smoke your current tail lights for a lot cheaper. Looks pretty decent too (search for: smoked tail lights)

Reason: more infos
OK as the sometimes called "anti-mod" moderator let me say that I've owned a bunch of Porsches starting in 1965. The only two that gave me any problems were the ones I made "performance modifications" to. I made great cars less so by messing with them with the then state of the art modifications. Admittedly modifications have improved over the years but I still think you have to ask yourself why you want to do this. The minor performance gains advertised are frequently not realized, they have not had a lot of testing and the money spent could be better used on driver instruction. So my vote is to use the allocated $ on training and making the car's appearance more to you taste as you have suggested and stay away from "performance" gee-haws. The above suggestions are good starts. Take some before and after photos and share them with us as you go. I'm sure there are lots of folks in the same boat.
IMO the weakest parts of a stock Cayman are the wheel bolts. I actually bought new ones from Ralph Boothe before my car arrived so I could change them out when the car showed up.
I believe you are the only one in this Forum that is a stronghold STOCK GURU.how does it feel to be the Lone wolf ? and a moderator at that.

Where do I get that Airbag sticker Cover Up ? Thanks
You can order the airbag visor decals cover-ups from this guy in Canada. He only used to sell black ones, but now it looks like he has CF and brushed aluminum look as well - for about $20 shipped, they are easy to install and do a great job of hiding those annoying stickers.
