prodgers - This would be an excellent topic for a poll: What to do with the cargo net? I like your ideas for the net so far - keep 'em coming!

I'm pretty much bald, so this won't help me very much. I might have to find some other areas to shave... Perhaps this would be another good topic for a poll!

That's a pretty good idea - I was planning to weigh my spoiler. I'm not sure how hard it is to get the rest of the stuff out of the car.

Removing the doors and windows would save a lot of weight! Also, don't forget to go to the john before you hit the track.

Reminds me of the Top Gear episode where they crossed the salt plains in Africa:

Anyone care to comment about my idea to remove the underbody panels?
There must be a LOT of weight there.

They don't weigh very much and are in the right place i.e. low down. It's the high up weight you need to get rid of !!!!

Removing the lower panels may create more drag at speed; might help a little around town. Moving high weight lower is a track trick. In terms of gas mileage, low weight counts too. Unsprung rotating mass (wheels, tires, brakes) counts most.

Wheel Center Caps

They don't weigh very much, but they're certainly useless at an AX or DE.

F = ma, so acceleration is inversely proportional to mass. So for a 2,800 lb car, a 70 lb difference in driver weight translates to 2.5% difference in acceleration. No difference in top speed on a flat road which depends only on drag coefficient, not weight.
