From First Drive: 2008 Porsche RS 60 Spyder - Autoblog: "Tim Cupp, Porsche's product manager for sports cars, says the sport exhaust is available on other Boxsters, but only raises the volume. On the RS 60, it helps the car take advantage of a re-worked engine management system, which adds eight horsepower."
PSE - Porsche Sports Exhaust System
The acoustics of this dual-mode sports exhaust system are dependent on driving style, ranging from standard output during normal road driving to a more aggressive tone during performance use. Modes are selected using a button on the center console (or ‘Sport’ mode button on vehicles with optional Sport Chrono Package/Sport Chrono Package Plus).
Introduction planned for 04/2007. Some models may require additional components. For detailed information about this product, please contact your Porsche dealer.

That's a bizzare quote. Either the sports exhaust has lower back pressure or it doesn't. The engine management system has nothing to do with it. Either Mr. Cup was not being completely honest, or he is misinformed.

The way the last sentence is written, it's the re-worked engine management system that adds the power, and the sports exhaust helps take advantage of the new management system. The wording may be just as intended, leading to some confusion.

Who can even measure 8HP reliably, at around 300HP that would always fall within the error margin. IMHO it is just a marketing gimmick to sell more RS60 and ... I fell for it ...

I would be willing to bet a pitcher of margaritas that Porsche can measure 8 HP reliably! I agree that 8 HP isn't a lot, but every little bit helps.
I don't know what is common for automotive but in aerospace we expect <1% on something like that. 8 hp inc from 300 is 2.7% which should be measureable. I'd expect Porsche to be that good also. The shop down the street maybe not so much.
Maybe they can measure it but Boxster or for that matter Cayman engines are most certainly not built to the spec that they all prodcue exactly the same HP. So they me be able to measure it but to think that every RS60 has exactly 8HP more then an S is veeeeeeeeeeery doubtful.

Agreed. Every engine is tested at the factory, and Porsche's tolerance is +5%/-0%, so a CS engine could be anywhere from 295 to 310 HP, and the RS60 could be anywhere from 303 to 318 HP.
