Thumbs up Sharkwerks Lightweight Flywheel (LWF) feedback

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm very pleased with the drivability of the LWF from Alex at Sharkwerks. I finally had a chance to drive it in earnest this weekend and I was pleased with how it loosened up the driveline some (in a good way) and made the car more flexible. This is another item I wish our cars came with from the factory as I don't see any downsides to this modification. I was concerned before doing it because some people said "oh you'll get some chatter at idle" etc. from the tranny but I've got none of that. No noises, no problems, makes the car easier to drive and easier to drive fast. Two thumbs up for this mod, now I have to put together my pics into an article! (I think Alex is supposed to send me some of a car they did as well).

Thanks to Alex and Sharkwerks, yet another successful mod!

OK Ken - Good to hear that your Cayman is back on the road to recovery.........

So your re-built engine works!

Why did you have to re-build it - (Did you need a new Crankshaft?) and what other advantages did you add?

Initially I didn't need a new crankshaft, then I did, so that was one of the new parts installed into the engine. The LWF and others were just bonuses. Car did very well at the track for what I asked it to do and not a single drop of oil burned, no puffs of smoke, nothing, that motosports separator really works!

Hello Ken:

I am going to install the LWF end of this month as well! I hope to get the same result as you got.

Great!

Maybe I missed it, but beside the LWF, what else did you have done to the engine? Stroked? New pistons + crankshaft?

Hey Ken, so glad you're back in action again! Really glad you like the LWF... Porsche had used a single mass up until the 964 and on the Cayman there's little to no added noise so we've been doing them quietly here for a while

The LTW flywheel has been on my list of things to do from the start. I would have accepted the "chatter" it that happned. Its good to know its a non issue.

Also I do buy the argument regarding a LTW flywheel and avoiding RMS issues/problems.

Not sure why Porsche went went the dual mass setup.

Ken,

Is the LWF still working out well? No noises or other issues... Also, did you put in a sport clutch or anything else along with the LWF that may have helped reduce chatter? Curious because I am considering this mod in the near term.

I did not put in a sport clutch, my clutch was A-OK and it isn't like I have 600hp or something and need a heavy duty one, the factory one seems fine. The only time I get noise from the tranny is when I am in say 6th gear with the A/C on and going up a hill on the highway and starting to lug the engine some I'll pick up some sound that sounds like sandpaper rubbing together, but if I shift into 5th, etc. it immeidately goes away.
