Yet another License Plate question...

Ok, I think I have decided to go without a front plate even though NJ requires it.

The issue is...I need to get the car inspected in NJ (I bought it from a dealer in PA), so do I need to have a front plate on to pass inspection? It would be a royal waste of time to fail just for that.

You could buy the Mower Axel plate holder for the inspection and then keep it in the front trunk in the event you are ever stopped (along with a believable story about forgetting to put in back on for whatever reason).

Can you try something temporary?
Just read this in the NJ DMV site.
No need to take a chance

“New vehicles presented to inspection with obvious failures will be failed and forfeit the one time, four year exemption for a New Car Dealer sticker”

So if you fail you have to keep going back every 2 years then right?

Nick,

The best option I like is the option in this thread.

I don't know how NJ inspection works, but can you get inspection at a Porsche dealership? I imagine they would be more understanding.

I would actually hope the dealership is not more understanding - that is a good way to get their legal privilege/authority to do the inspection revoked. I think NJ folks are lucky; THEY don't have to get inspected every year like we do here in Texas! New cars get a two year time for their 1st inspection, compared to the 4 yrs mentioned for NJ.

Last time I had a "failure" (rear license plate light out), I was given 20 days to fix the fault, return to the same testing vendor, and get re-tested free. I believe that is part of Texas motor vehicle code. (Then again, mine was an older car, not new...)

Since the car is not new you want to try some of the private stations??
It may cost you a little bit but they might be able to over look the license plate portion.
They usually really care about the emissions and cracked windshields.
