Whoooo. I just checked my records and I had brought my car in for a state inspection on June 16, 2008 (6624 miles). This is not my usual Porsche dealership. I just went there because I was in the neighborhood.

Also, if as I understand, this is a measure of the number of ignitions, wouldn't one expect more then 1 ignition? I would assume that when you drive, you have multiple ignitions??? Thanks
So are you saying that in June of this year your car had approximately 6,930 miles? I would not be able to give you a time frame, just an approximate mileage of the occurrence. Did you own the car new? If not, at what mileage did you take ownership? If you are the only owner, then my question to you would be....do you ever remember missing a shift and putting the car in a lower gear? This is when something like this can happen. It wouldn't take long for it to reach that range if you were close to the limit (redline) in the higher gear.
I believe that the terminology is somewhat misleading. I'm still trying to get a grip on the ignitions part of this. I believe that this may be the number of times you have hit this range. Just a guess on my part. I don't have anything just yet to back it up. I hope that this helps in understanding what is going on.

You know, I'm going to go out on a limb here, maybe during that inspection someone drove the car.

Because we're talking about a four cycle engine in the CS and 99% of all combustible engines in automobiles today, it takes only two crankshaft revolutions to fire all of the cylinders. So 2 rev's on a Cayman engine will fire all 6 cylinders or make 6 "ignitions". Considering this theory and the number of revs at say 7500 RPM's in one second (125 RPM's/ sec) this would equal about 62 ignitions... So it really does seem impossible that your engine revved from 7500-9500 RPM's with only 5 logged ignitions. It would be interesting to know why the false ignition log occurred to begin with...I wonder if other CS owners have false over rev info in their ECU's?

Woops, last post should read "(125 Revs per second)"

Hi, This has been very helpful.

I keep great records on when I get gas so I know exactly when I hit that miliage. I also purchased this car new from a different dealership.

I know for sure that I never missed a shift. I can also say without any doubt that I have never even come close to redline. The max I ever got to was ~ 6200 if even that. More like 6000 rpms. To redline it I would have had to been flying so I know that I didn't do this. Thanks

I find this information to be flawed. I do not see how you could get simply one ignition cycle in each range. The numbers should look more like a pyramid. 2,156 in range 1, 516 in range 2, 201 in 3, 56 in 4, 1 in 5, etc.....

At those engine speeds, getting once cycle in any range would be very tricky.

Isnt that considered a dishonest behaviour? to clear these ranges that is?!

That's a very interesting question. I don't think so. If you own the car, you should own the data in the car, and be able to do what you like with it.

However, if you were to misrepresent the car to someone (potential buyer, dealer, etc), that would be dishonest.

Hi All,

I stopped by my local Porsche dealer this afternoon and talked with the Service Manager and their top Technical guy. They looked at the Durametric reading and told me not to worry about it. It will not affect my warrenty. They said that it must be a mistake since all shifting ranges are showing 1 hr. They also told me to stop by sometime with my vehicle and they would do a check using the Porsche instrumentation.

Thanks to all. I'll follow-up once I have more information.
