Picked up some RS60 exhaust tips -- could use some pointers

I bought some RS60 exhaust tips for my 987s (3.4) from Suncoast. I was expecting a sleeved split-dual tip that would slip over the existing tailpipe with 15min of wrenching.

Instead I think I ended up with a bigger project, but perhaps a nice enhancement to the exhaust. Much to my surprise, the tips are a "dual" exhaust from the cross-pipe. Looks like the character "pi". The good news is it looks like it'll flow better than the OEM crosspipe, and my guess is it'll sound interesting.

Now for the question: how much of the exhaust do i need to take apart to get the crosspipe out? Is there enough play in the exhaust hangers to work it loose w/o removing the mufflers?

Thanks much,

Scott

I'm very curious to hear your report about any improvement in sound with the new tip.

If I remember correctly, I don't think there is enough play around the exhaust hanger to remove the crosspipe but I could be wrong. In this case, I hope I am wrong. It's been awhile since I've changed out the exhaust.

Good luck.

I'd love to know if this can be installed easily.
Will be following this thread.

I can answer your question: "no, it can't be installed easily"; at least by me. It doesn't appear that loosening the clamps for the crosspipe(s) gives you any play at all. Even loosening the rear hangers doesn't seem to do much.

I'm now digging into loosening the $%! bolts that attach the exhaust to the headers. Not fun.

I'll keep you posted

Careful with those. I recommend spraying them with some penetrating oil and let them sit overnight. We broke 4 out of 6 when we changed my exhaust. And then you will be drilling in a tight spot to get through bolts in there.

Well, I got lucky. I can see how they could easily snap off, and I can't imagine trying to drill in there. Yikes.

I managed to work the driver's side exhaust off, giving me enough room to slip off the exhaust tip. The new one's on there (dangling like a couple...) and I'm digging around for some torque specs for the flange bolts. Anyone have them handy? They didn't feel like they were torqued on very tight to begin with, so I'm thinking 20-30'ish.

Thanks,
Scott.

And here we are:

Sounds cool, and my guess is it's going to flow a bit better given the "true" dual tips.
