I was also concerned about the water intrusion issue. so about three months ago I removed the plate and CAREFULLY cut two NASA ducts into it. I cut and glued side panels into the ducts using black plastic material...
After giving the engine computer a week to get accustmed to it (if that really makes a difference, I'm not sure, but it seems so), i notice a little more throaty sound and better throttle response. I took pice and created a template but haven't had time to write a post. it looks almost stock (I refused to deface my Cayman S with common gutter screen), and I think it has a higher airflow at road speeds.

In combination with the low restriction air filter I think it makes a small difference. cost me about $6 to do it.

Did you happen to take any pictures? Or can you describe this mod a bit better, please?

Do a search in the thread and you will come up with a step by step guide with pictures on how to do it.

It will probably take about 20 minutes of your time, plus the time it takes for the paint to dry.

I am referring to the addition of NASA ducts.
