is it safe to take the resticting plate off the intake vents nd puttin a meesh grill...it wont mess the intake up???
Err, pardon me, is this a joke? You have just entered the most controversial topic on this forum. Perhaps you didn't search enough. The plate is meant to be a deflector, not a restrictor. Some have concluded it does restrict. There is one person who took out his plate, performed a cutout in the plate roughly the size of the opening to the intake, applied a mesh grill to it and reinstalled it.

As it has been pointed out, this has been discussed in great length and the decision to do this modification is entirely up to you. It has been debated over and over as to the benefits of this modification (or lack there of, depending on the view) so you should do some searching and reading on the subject to see all the various views.
If you decide you'd like to do it, our Articles section has a how-to write up on the procedure. Check out this link for the Article:
I'm glad you've done it, and have found value in it, but to say that MOST of the actual Cayman, Cayman S and Boxster owners on this board have done this modification is an overstatement of huge proportions.
Vinny - Whether you live in Vegas or not, please do a search of the "modifications" forum - there's enough discussion on this to choke a herd of horses - read some or all of it if you have 6 months to kill, and make up your own mind - honestly, the last thing we need is yet another thread on this subject.

Vinny - did you look at this Article: Side Vent Removal ? It explains it pretty well - just be sure that you use a hair dryer or hot air gun to heat up the plastic a bit, or you risk snapping off one of the tabs (don't ask how I know ). It does take a bit of patience and care the first time you do it.
