Talking 2.7 Base Cayman Serious HP upgrade

I am a newbie to this in terms of modifications, names of parts and what not. So pardon my ignorance if I don't seem like I know what I'm talking about.

My quest....was to find out what people were using to get some serious HP gains for a decent price. Scrolling through the forums, I came across Cayman modifications with the 400+ HP. This was very exciting news for me to read about. It turns out the company is named TPC based out in Maryland. It is a turbo charge kit, with exhaust and tuning. I was surprised to find out that total cost with installation was roughly 12 - 14,000.00$$

This was all good news......for the Cayman S! However, being that I have a base 2.7 Cayman, I was very curious and anxious to find out right away if they might be able to do this for the 2.7 as well. And…..Great NEWS! They can definitely do it for the base Cayman 2.7 models. They did not give me exact specifications on HP gains and what not (I’m thinking that no one has taken their base cayman to TPC yet), however the guy did let me know the out put should easily be over 350HP! The Cayman now will definitely not feel underpowered at times and I assume will be easily able to compete with some serious muscle.
Prior to finding out this information, the main conundrum was whether to wait and buy a CS and upgrade way later, or keep the Cayman and upgrade it relatively soon. In any case, I feel that this is one of the lower cost options to upgrade the cayman for some serious boost, as opposed to putting a Cayman through RUF or Farnbacher Loles (Cayman GTR), which costs roughly $30,000 to $50,000.00. Now of course, maybe it costs that much because they do many other different things with the engine, transmission etc., but again, I’m not too familiar with mods.
Any thoughts on this? I have a base Cayman with about 23,000 miles on it. Wondering if I should wait to get more use out of the warranty before mods or just go for it. The other thing is, having a turbo and all, would that shorten the engine life of the Porsche, and if so by how much? Anyway, just wanted to hear what people think.

Well If you did put a Turbo On the 2.7 You would be the first I have heard and that goes for the entire PLANET!! surely if someone has done this on a 2.7 already It would be in the Internet somewhere and I dont see anything. before I did it I would consider some things .#1 You wont get 13 to 15K more in Resale value so are you planning on keeping this car for a long time? How much did you pay for this car? can you Obtain a 3.4 for a marginal amount More then you would have a 400 HP CS with Turbo other factors are the Brakes ,Wheels,Gauges,6 speed Trans that you do NOT get on a 2.7 . I have a 2.7 But In all honesty would Buy a 3.4 and Put the Turbo on that model. If Its power you are after then the 3.4 is the one. I dont know about the longevity of adding a turbo but it has to reduce the Life of the motor .Bigger Spark Bigger Band = less life

Your best bet is to either buy a Corvette 6.2L crate motor (if it fits), or the 4.6L V8 in the CTS-V (if available) or just trade in your car for a Vette.

That should fulfill your desire for increased HP while not pissing your money away and the crate motors will come with a warranty too.

Your first step in search of more power IMO should be to trade your car for a CS...if you find that enough, you retain factory reliability, driveability, and warranty. If you mod, the bigger engine s/b less stressed.

If I were going to shorten the life of my cars engine by putting a turbo on it, I might as well get the full benefit, and do it to a Cayman S 3.4, and have some serious grunt. You are going to need the benefit of the CSs upgraded brakes, suspension etc.

I have the TPC turbo in my CS. If I had a base Cayman, I would lean strongly toward getting it installed. I would expect the power increase to be nearly as dramatic with the 2.7l, and believe me, it would be enough. Plus the driveability, the sound, the smoothness all would be there just like the 3.4l turbo.

I would wait for the 09 CS which should be approx 320 bhp.

I read in one of your other posts you have decided to go for the turbo on your 2.7 L Cayman. Is this correct?
