Thumbs up OEM short shifter vs. standard shifter

I installed my short shifter this evening. Firstly, two thumbs up to this site, without which I would never have found the information needed to attempt this myself. The installation was time consuming but straight forward. Two observations which might be helpful to others doing this: 1) to take out the "killer screw" I carefully drilled a small hole in the plastic piece above it (it gets fully covered up anyway) which made the screw easy to reach and take out / put back in. 2) I used painter's blue tape to cover my handbrake handle, without which I am sure the leather would have been scratched when taking out the center console.

The difference between short shifter and standard shifter is amazing. Very precise and tight feel. I made some before and after measurements of the throws using the "R" on my shifter as a reference point. With standard shifter, the distance between throws was 111-114 mm (about 4.5"). With the short shifter, the distance between throws is now 78-82 mm (about 3"). That's 30% shorter / quicker shifts!!

I also recently installed my OEM short shifter and loving it. Especially with the Borla Exhaust I recently installed.

Should be standard equipment! Porsche just wants more money for every bits & pieces.

Yes the short shifter makes a great difference! I installed a Snell Short shifter using the direction found on this site. Short Shifter Adapted for Cayman - My Articles Never would have done it with out the help. total cost of the install was $150. I did have a bit of trouble getting the shift knob and shift boot to get back together, ended up having to shave a bit of the plastic ring inside the boot to make it reconnect.
