ECU Reset following Mod

Hello Folks!

Following your instructions i removed the plate from the intake and de-snorkeled by 987S. Sound is great and IMHO it revs more freely. Seems also that fuel consumption went down a bit. I also installed the K&N Filter. Now i´d like to reset the ECU, so that it can adapt to the increased air supply.

Unfortunately, there are differing opinions on how to reset the ECU in this forum. Some say you only need to take off the battery. Others say, that due to capacitors, the memory is not resetted when you remove the battery only and suggest to do a shortcut + to - of the cables.

Any suggestions on any damage that could occur?
I do not know how much power is left inside the capacitors and am afraid of burning any diodes in the grid?

Any ideas or experience with that topic?

Thanks from Germany

Oliver

Just drive the car and the ecu will automatically set itself to adjust to the increased air flow

Not the battery, the cables after you remove them for 10 or 15 seconds. No idea if this resets the ECU or not in a Cayman.

PLEASE DO NOT RESET ANYTHING! JUST DRIVE IT!

If it makes you feel better, just lock your doors three times in a row and pretend like that will reset it.

While driving it will indeed allow the car to adapt over time you can force the car into relearning the whole new map range by removing the battery cable for at least 30 seconds and then reattaching, if you've done it long enough you'll get a couple of errors when you first start up the car, I think PSM and something else which will quickly go away, but that let's you know that the ECU stored maps have been cleared and the car will start relearning everything again.

Either way if you drive the car long enough it will adapt.

DO NOT SHORT THE BATTERY OR ANYTHING ELSE.

Ok!
Thanks guys.

Since i don´t want to mess up my baby i´ll stick to the conservative approach and let the car learn itself.

Cheers

Oliver
