Desnork'd

Last week, I got to play cheese maker (Swiss) by drilling holes in the restrictor plate on my Cayman. I didn't notice much of anything, either acoustically or on my butt-dyno. This week, I helped my brother pull off his restrictor plate and then did the same to mine. Now that's a noticable difference! Not as loud as I had hoped (I come from the mother of all intake sound prodicing cars, a 1999 Civic Si(R) with a cold air intake.) but it sounds great and it definitely pulls harder, as far as I can tell. Anyhow, just thought I'd share.

Hi shiny:

Do you think removal of the restrictor plate was worth the effort. Other than the sound do you think the performance was enhanced and by how much? Are there any poblems if the car goes back to the dealer and the plate is not there?

Bob,

There is a huge thread in the Mods section on the benefits of doing this. Something like 18 extra ponies on a dyno. I noticed it immediately when I did this, plus the sound is much better as well. This should be one of the first things that is ever done to your new Cayman if you ask me.

I'm shiny's bro and it took all of 10 min to get mine off. Makes a difference for sure. Worth the 10 min and zero $$!!! I did not notice much of a sound difference though...maybe a bit louder with the windows closed but not much to write home about.
