3.8L motor Transplants

<div>Hi,

Reading various Cayman forums, I have seen 4 tuning shops (thus far) doing the 3.8L motor transplants:

RUF ($40,000, Texas), FVD (Florida), Farnbacher Loles (Florida) and Orton Performance ($22,900, Georgia).

I have not seen pricing for FVD or FL. If anyone knows what they are, please share. Also, is there someone else out there doing the 3.8L motor transplants? I have to think that with time, the competition on this mod will get pretty intense.

Thanks for the education.

Eurocar Boutique also does a swap but with a non-Porsche engine.

9ff si in the States I believe, but where? Do we know their prices?

Agreed with the LSD comments. However, I think that mod is also a matter of time. I don't think that's very difficult to do technically.

According to a recent issue of Excellence mag, the FarnbacherLoles x51 conversion is $39,500. That does not include the limited slip. Also, the mag says they are in CT, not FL.

Dave

Correction: while the mag says they are in CT, I see their advertisement shows them with facilities in both CT and FL.

You know whats crazy about this... Don't get me wrong i love my Porsche andam in favor of doing performance work to it but I come from a past where all i had was mustangs. Do you have any idea what kind of motor you can get for $40,000 or even $25,000. I know i blew my engine in my cobra a few times running to much boost but it still only costs $8-$10,000 for everything and i was making over 800hp and running 10 sec 1/4 mile times. I know its not apples to apples comparing a ford motor to a Porsche but come on 40k for a 3.8 liter?!?!? thats crazy and to boot its not really doing much to that the car. I could understand if it was making these cars a compete with the new turbo but its not. Any way thats my opinion.

Also keep in mind these are trade in prices. You are giving them your original engine as part of the deal!

If cost bothers you we can always put in a LS1 in a Civic. Hehe! Now that's crazy fast!
