The ZIP file contains a before and after of my exhaust for comparison purposes. Keep in mind this was shot with a digital still camera that also happens to shoot MPEG video clips, my Sony Cybershot so the audio quality is a bit compressed and I don't think gives as much bass as is really there, but certainly you'll notice a significant difference between before and after. Enjoy!
However, that was the FIRST time the exhaust was fired up. Ever fire up a new exhaust?? - IT STINKS! Yes it has to clear out all of the stuff in the mufflers and cats that burns off so that's where this smoke is from. It has gone away now, but boy did it stink up the shop for a few minutes! Good spot, but nothing to be concerned about.
BTW the complete install article is now available here:
I know this is difficult to do in words, but can you describe any more how much -louder- the milltech system is compared with stock?I think you tried anotheraftermarket cayman exhaust, how does it compare in volume to that? How does the volume compare with other car aftermarket exhausts? Louder than the average modified honda?
Any additional description would be much appreciated. Ideally, I'd like the HP gain with stock exhaust loudness. I know I won't get that, but I'm just trying to geta feel for how much louder it will be.
The only way to really judge loudness would to have been to have put some meter on the car and do runs at different speeds/rpms with both exhausts and compare. I can say the exhaust is quite civil at idle and when driving around there is no problem carrying on a conversation, etc. what changes most is the tone of the exhaust and the bass rumble when opening up the throttle. That's why I think Milltek got this exhaust right, it isn't some ricey Honda going brrrrraaaappppp all the time down the road, it doesn't suffer the resonance problem that the Tubi of Fabspeed have. I think I said previously that it reminds me of the 993 air cooled sports exhaust in tone and sound quality. I hope that helps. If you are going to Porsche Parade stop by and have a listen for yourself!
