Fabspeed Exhaust

I've just heard the sound of the exhaust while fabspeed were trying to dyno the car and it sound so good!

and i've heard my friend, who had fabspeed exhaust on his 997 too. Both of them sounds terrific.

since i'm new in porsche, i just want to know all the things, good and bad, about Fabspeed exhaust.

Thank you. (Btw, is there any sound file of K-MAN-S' exhaust??)

I'm not sure how you missed the sound file for my exhaust, but yes there is one in the Files section, and links to it posted in the article and in the forum. Keep in mind that you'd have to use the same microphone from the same distance to get a comparison between two exhausts and even then how it sounds on your computer speakers may not be how it sounds in real life. I've also heard the fabspeed exhaust first hand and what I couldn't take was the resonance. Some might like that, but I don't. You mentioned that the fabspeed exhaust was on the dyno, what were their numbers by chance? You also asked to know things good and bad about the exhaust on the negative side it was a pain to fit up to the Cayman it was installed on, and hung down rather low, on the positive side it is nice and shiny. Tokz,

I have the Fabspeed system on my Cayman. As of right now just the cat-back is on but i just received an email from Fabspeed letting me know that my sport headers will be shipped to me next week. As far as sound goes the cat-back is very nice. That is really the only way i can describe them. They are not over the top laud and as far as resonance goes i feel its minimal. I do think that once the headers are on its going to be a whole new sound much more deep and aggressive but still the cat-back is a nice improvement over stock. Now everyone says they hang lower. Heres my opinion. They do hang slightly lower and i emphasize slightly but they look as if they hang much lower due to the fact that they are polished stainless steel and you can see the entire system under the car. It basically tricks you into thinking they are lower then they really are. I will get a picture up by the weekend so you can see. I have not got it on the dyno yet b/c I'm waiting for the headers and I'm very anxious to see what kind of hp numbers I'm going to get. I know K-man-s got 21hp out of his miltek system. I will keep everyone posted.

And yes they are a tight fit under the car but they weigh less.

Kenny,

Thanks for the good word on FABSPEED. My FABSPEED cat back system is being built as we speak and I am anxious to install it. Did you have a dealer do it, or did you install it on your own?

Thanks for the feedback!

Well my best friend owns a performance shop so he did it for me at no charge but i watched him do it and i would recommend having a shop install it. It was kinda tricky getting everything to fit straight and you have to take off all the old factory brackets and install the new one fabspeed supply you with. But if your handy with a tool I'm sure you can get it done.

Hey Kenny,

How long did it take your professional friend? Just trying to figure out how long it will take my guy and determine if it's worth having someine else do it.

it took him a good couple of hours:I'd say 2 - 2.5 total to get everything straight and aligned.

I always equate resonance to a 'droning' sound, the easiest way to cause it is to lug the car the a little, or let off the gas and let the car coast against the gears. Of course the easiest way to describe it is to get into a car that has an exhaust that has resonance and point it out. There used to be a particular exhaust for the 986 Boxster that had bad resonance but I don't recall the name of it at the moment. Seems like it began with a 'g' but anyway it had bad resonance.

I want to update this thread to be 'fair'. The Fabspeed unit that went onto a car that I heard was an early production unit, possibly the first installed on a customer Cayman. Since then Fabspeed has made adjustments to this exhaust and I have not heard nor seen installed a current revision. I want to be fair to Fabspeed and point this out as I'm not sure that I have made this particular point in months since that exhaust was first installed. I would therefore lean on members here who have recently had it installed to give their depicton of sound and difficulty, etc.
