STUTTGART, Germany — You could think of Reinald Mattes as the Dior of the automotive interior.
His company, Mattes Interieurtechnik, adds the personal touch to the interiors of sports and luxury cars. Leather, Alcantara, carbon-fiber and wood grain are all liberally called upon to add the ultraluxury touch to high-end vehicles.
The company says it has 'practically no limits' to color — including custom dyeing — and materials. In addition, it looks at ergonomics with an eye for perfect fit, adjusting seat positions, upholstery design (including thickness and side bolster placement), and steering wheel size and position to the car's intended occupants.

Color coordination of trim, seating, seatbelts and airbag cushions, matching trunk lining to the vehicle's passenger compartment — and even carefully selecting and matching thread colors and styles — are all details seen to by Mattes.
Naturally, owners of Porsches and Mercedes-Benzes are well represented on the Mattes client list, but the company hastens to add it works on trucks and buses with equal aplomb.
